Then we had at hand the Alpha GT model, in fact, the starting version of the mini-line, raising two-SIM devices to a qualitatively new level. This "dish" is flavored with Android 4.0 and in aggregate has no analogues in Russia. Like the Alpha GT, the older model of the series comes in the original "engineering packaging". I’ll make a few notable explanations. The presence of two cables at once is a step, to put it mildly, unconventional, but therefore no less useful. The fact is that in this way one wire can always be connected to the computer, and the second can be used exclusively as part of the charging. A high-quality headset is also a subject of special attention, its noodle-type wires will not represent a single marine knot after being removed from a pocket.

Appearance, controls and connectors

Frankly speaking, in comparison with Alpha GT, the differences are expressed by and large only in a smaller thickness of the case, other characteristic features such as a narrow slot of the front speaker, a set touch buttons and the dedicated rear camera block remain in place. As a result, we are dealing with the same neutral design, which, although it does not gravitate towards "state employees", is not enough stars from the sky. But the thickness of 10.5 mm for the large case came in handy, the model cannot be called particularly bulky. The dimensions also seem moderate in the hands, the palm does not weigh the phone down. The assembly performs as usual strong point Highscreen models, there were no cracks in the case and squeaks in our sample. Important difference: if the GT is removed back cover was quite difficult, then in this smartphone it is removed and installed in place easily and naturally.

On the front panel there are light and proximity sensors, a camera and a panel of touch keys. However, Highscreen itself seemed to be of little quality. That is why we got the first “two-sim” in the country with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels. And this despite the fact that 800 by 480 pixels for a screen up to 4.5 inches is an indicator outside the zone of criticism.

The high pixel density, coupled with the IPS-screen, give an excellent picture at the level, I'm not afraid of the word, of the most modern flagships. Let's say a similar resolution is found on Sony Xperia S, Samsung Galaxy S III and Htc one X. It is difficult to say anything new about an IPS matrix using the Alpha GTR as an example. Traditionally, calm natural color rendition is observed - in spite of Super AMOLED with its "acidic" shades in the same Galaxy S III. Is that IPS is slightly inferior in brightness. Alpha GTR has large viewing angles, at maximum deviations there is a feeling of a transparent "gray film", but not inversion. Also, if you look at an angle diagonally, the violet hue usual for IPS appears.

In the bright sun, the behavior of the screen is expectedly "legible", it does not fade even in direct light. In clear weather, "readability" also remains on good level... The display itself is sensitive and responsive to pressing, and there is nothing to blame for it either.

Additionally, a BSI sensor is used (a frequent visitor hTC flagships), which allows you to get a high-quality photo with a lack of light.

The camera settings are organized (in landscape orientation) in a vertically arranged panel. Given the capabilities of the camera, the number of options is comparable to the maximum. The presence of HDR allows panoramic shooting with "gluing" a series of frames. White balance and color effects are presented with a wide range of options. In the presence of more than a dozen shooting modes: sunset, party, snow, etc. The most demanding users will find adjustments for brightness, saturation, contrast and even hue with sharpness.

Performance

The hardware basis of the Alpha GTR is a dual-core mediaTek processor MTK6577 with ARM Cortex-A9 architecture and PowerVR SXG540 graphics chip. For fans of dry characteristics in pursuit of the number of cores, they remind that Android can equally successfully slow down with both dual- and quad-core processors, the real benefit of "hardware" is now more expressed in the manufacturer's efforts to optimize specific model... In the case of the Alpha GTR, the dual-core processor and 1 GB of RAM are fully implemented, during the operation in the web surfing and multimedia tasks, there is no thought about the need to "pump up the power".

For games, Alpha GTR can be qualified as a decent platform, Dead Trigger level titles "fly" even with the included background music in the PowerAMP player. The picture of the same "trigger" on the HD-screen looks great.

If we talk about synthetic tests, their results are adequate to the declared characteristics.

The task of managing the smartphone is entrusted to Android 4.0.3. Current version plus no less modern "hardware" a priori provide us with minimal compatibility problems when choosing programs on the service Google play... When forming software package Highscreen has followed the path of sensible minimalism. In order not to be sprayed on "finishing" Android, following the example of Samsung "rotated" on the modifications, the developers of Alpha GTR preferred to install the popular launcher GO launcher EX. It allows you to control the number of home screens, supports themes, works with gestures and has many different "goodies".

As for the set of programs, I repeat, there is a minimal set of necessary software tools. So the user will not "drown" in the list of applications, and in the future there will be no need to clean the smartphone of unnecessary utilities. Mail clients, built-in browser, voice recorder, file manager, task manager, music and video players - the kit allows you to slowly get used to Android at first and understand which applications really need to be installed additionally.

In a relationship telephone functions Highscreen made an interesting decision. Along with the usual "dialer" Android, a duplicate program Dialer One is installed. It has broader functionality. Multimedia capabilities do not differ from those discussed earlier on the example of Alpha GT, so we will not focus on them. Let me just note that unlike its "little brother", Alpha GTR does an excellent job with Full HD video.

Navigation

Of course, like any other Android smartphone, the Alpha GTR is not without a navigation module. A notable moment was the presence of A-GPS MediaTek technology called EPO (Extended Prediction Orbit). It is designed to predict the orbits of satellites for up to 30 days to reduce the search time for these in a cold start.

Navigation capabilities are standard for Android by default: “Addresses”, “Maps”, “Latitude” and “Navigation” are available. The first item is for searching POIs, points of interest. Google has a good base in the CIS, so if you leave aside the navigation itself, a smartphone will come in handy as a handy reference. "Maps", in fact, include "Addresses", so the allocation of the latter in a separate program is not entirely clear. On "Maps" you enter the address for the route. In practice, the smartphone can last up to 50 hours in music listening mode, up to 6.5 hours when watching 720p movies at maximum screen brightness, up to six hours of "survival" is offered for 3D games. In a mixed daily use case, the model is really able to hold out until the evening of the second day.

conclusions

The only negative point that comes to mind after testing Alpha GTR is too modest appearance, which does not correspond to the "gut" of the smartphone. Hopefully in future highscreen models will attract not only talented "hardware engineers", but also designers.

For the rest, by and large, I have nothing to add to what was said in the introductory part. The Alpha GTR is an unexpected two-character revolution. An HD-screen with a large diagonal, a normal battery, a modern and moderately powerful processor at a price of 11,990 rubles turns out to be twice and even sometimes almost three times cheaper than well-known smartphones with practically the same characteristics.
