Frequently asked questions - technical support. Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus review and tests

In the box with the inscription "Highscreen Black Box Radar-HD" we find the recorder itself, a bracket for mounting on glass, a car charger, a miniUSB-USB cable for connecting to a PC, and a microSD card with a capacity of 16 GB. With the exception of the card (and, moreover, such a capacious one!) The set of the device is absolutely standard. However, it is worth noting the car charger, equipped with an on / off button, which allows you not to pull it out of the cigarette lighter every time.

The appearance of the Radar-HD is very brutal - to me it somehow reminds me of the spirit of a Hummer SUV. And the dimensions to match: 125 x 62 x 35 mm when folded - most recorders have much smaller dimensions.

The case material (black plastic) outwardly seemed quite solid (they were not tested for resistance to falls). There are no complaints about the ergonomics of the buttons: large silver "keys" stand out well against a black background and have a fairly clear, tangible move.

But with the flip-up display, it's a bad thing - when the recorder is installed on the bracket, the closed flip hangs noticeably. (Although, perhaps, this is a defect in a separate device or the merit of previous Moscow testers.)

As for the bracket, there are no questions to it - the standard system used in the Highscreen Black Box Radar-HD with a threaded connection to the body provides good rigidity of the fastener. We also managed to almost completely hide the bracket behind the salon mirror, due to which, despite the dimensions of the device, the whole structure turned out to be quite compact.

The Highscreen Black Box Radar-HD menu has a structure typical for car recorders in the form of a vertical list of items. The speed of work in the menu is quite comfortable - we did not find any annoying "brakes".

But unfortunately, in the video settings, we did not find an item where you can set the length of the tracks into which the recording will be "cut". (Note that even the simplest cheap recorders have such a setting.) According to our tests, "Radar" cuts video automatically, but the algorithm for "cutting" itself remained a mystery to us. With an almost unchanged mode of movement, we got rollers of very different lengths: sometimes at 2, then at 11, then 23 minutes ...

Highscreen Black Box Radar-HD is capable of shooting video in HD resolution (1280 by 720 pixels), which can be reduced to VGA (640 by 480 pixels) if desired. The video is saved in the original player program, which is recorded on the supplied memory card. This software allows you to view the videos themselves, the acceleration graph from the gyroscope sensor (G-sensor), as well as, using data from the built-in GPS receiver, trace the route on Google maps (unfortunately, this screenshot was lost with us). If necessary, the track can be easily extracted from the program and saved in any folder on the PC in AVI format, after which the video can be watched without any problems in the standard Windows media player.

As you can see from the tracks we recorded, the camera coverage angle of the Highscreen Black Box Radar-HD is really wide and corresponds to the declared 120 degrees. Here, even on a wide road, the left and right sidewalks (sidewalks) fall into the lens, which allows you to "catch" the beginning of the "event" earlier.

But the quality of the video itself leaves much to be desired - the picture turns out to be somewhat "blurry", which is especially evident when shooting at night. Probably, this registrar uses so-called technology. "Interpolation" - software "stretching" the image to the desired size.

But as a radar detector Highscreen Black Box Radar-HD showed itself very well, even unexpectedly for a "hybrid" device. Note that recorders with a GPS receiver are often positioned as having the function of "warning about speed cameras", but this is achieved due to the CCS coordinate base registered in the memory. HighScreen also has such a base and includes, as stated, about 100,000 objects. But at the same time, Radar-HD is also equipped with a real hardware radar detector, which, according to the instructions, supports all the most common frequency bands of mobile (handheld) traffic police radars and KS cameras - the X, K, Ku and Ka bands.

The Radar-HD we are testing has passed the tests on the route "St. Petersburg - Pskov - Pärnu - Tartu" and back, during which there was only one single "puncture". On the way from Pskov to St. Petersburg, the device missed the KS camera, which for some reason did not "surface" from the coordinate base (or it was not there at all). Moreover, the hardware detector lit up, but late (KKS stand, as a rule, almost at right angles to the road and it is already pointless to slow down.) Otherwise, the whole route went perfectly: all KS cameras in Russia and Estonia Radar-HD knew, informing about them soon approaching by a female voice in Russian. In addition, in Estonia, the detector spotted police officers with hand-held radars in time.

Highscreen Black Box Radar-HD: instead of a resume

With a retail price of 7,990 rubles, the Radar-HD slightly outperforms many similar devices, which have similar functionality - a video recorder, a GPS receiver with a KKS base and a hardware radar detector, for which they ask from 7 to 12 thousand. It is also worth noting that the choice is small here - the number of such models on the Russian market is very small compared to others. And, like its few "classmates", Radar-HD turns out to be a "device for a big fan" - someone who for some reason wants just such a "multifunctional" recorder ...

The days when the recorder was the simplest webcam mounted on the windshield and recording a signal in VGA resolution are gone. New items almost universally know how to write videos in FullHD, shoot well in the dark, automatically turn on in emergency situations, work from a built-in battery, and so on. But even against this background, Highscreen found a way to highlight their product. Black Box Radar Plus is able not only to film everything that happens on the road, but also has a built-in radar detector.

Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus price - 8,990 rubles.

Design

Strange as it may sound for such a utilitarian device as a video recorder, Black Box Radar Plus looks unusual and attractive against the background of monotonous black boxes that have flooded the market. On the flat plastic case, decorative ribbed surfaces on the sidewalls stand out, and the control keys located on top are made of the same material. This brings an interesting touch to the design of the device. The body is made of soft-touch plastic - non-marking and non-slip, pleasant to the touch. The overall workmanship is more than decent.

Functional elements. On the front panel, of course, there is a lens with LED-backlit LEDs, as well as a forward-facing radar detector sensor.

At the back is a digital display that shows either the vehicle's speed, the current time, or the distance to the object (radar). To the left of the screen is an electronic compass indicator. To the right - the multifunctional button "Camera" (turns on / off the device, allows you to mark a recording as protected).

On the left we see connectors for connecting an external GPS antenna, a power cable and connecting to a PC (miniUSB port).

On the right is a slot for a microSD memory card (recording is carried out on it) and a connector for an AV cable.

Above are the control keys and a groove for mounting on the glass. There is also a microphone and a reset button hole.

Below is a folding screen.

Opportunities

All control of the Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus is concentrated on the block located above, plus on the "Camera" button. The P / MOD button is used to switch modes, of which there are several: recording mode, photography mode (yes, Black Box Radar Plus can take photos as well), photo / video viewing mode, setting mode; Also, using this button, you can switch to the functional settings mode, where one or another type of notification is selected. The DN button allows you to decrease the volume of the signal, moves the cursor down the menu, and also performs many additional similar functions in various modes. The UP button has similar properties, but with the opposite sign. The SET / OK button, in addition to confirming the settings, is responsible for turning on / off recording / playback, and also allows you to switch between various parameter settings. The button is used to switch the control mode.

As you can see, the control of the Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus is not the strongest side of the device, the set of functions assigned to each key is quite large and cumbersome; nevertheless, this is not a device with which it is necessary to constantly “communicate”, the recorder is “autonomous”.

Information is displayed both on a digital screen (what information is mentioned above) and on the main flip-up screen, where you can view photos and videos, as well as see all sorts of parameters and settings.

This is a small but bright enough screen, its capabilities are quite enough for the declared functions (TFT-matrix, 2.4˝, 320 x 240); it also rotates horizontally by 270 degrees (90 degrees to one side and 180 to the other), which makes it possible to demonstrate the recording to road traffic accident participants or traffic police officers without letting them into the cabin.

It's time, perhaps, to move on to the direct capabilities of the Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus as a video recorder and radar detector. The camera can record video in FullHD resolution with a frame rate of up to 30 fps and progressive scan, and also does not shade in the dark; the wide-angle lens covers an area of \u200b\u200b130 degrees diagonally. This is enough for the device to fully cope with its immediate responsibilities at a modern level. Moreover, it is not necessary to constantly record what is happening on the road, a three-dimensional acceleration sensor is built into the recorder, which allows you to activate recording in an emergency. Video is recorded with sound - there is a built-in microphone. MP4 (H.264) files are recorded to the microSD card supplied with the device. As befits a "black box", Black Box Radar Plus synchronously with video and audio recording records the coordinates of the route, the speed of your movement and the readings of the three-dimensional acceleration sensor - all information will be saved.

Frankly speaking, I was initially very skeptical about this device. Firstly, I am generally not very good at all kinds of combines - usually all kinds of "two in one" work exactly two times worse than each of the devices separately. And secondly, I met several so frankly paid reviews of this miracle on the network that it was already not good. I see such things at times, and it infuriates me incredibly - because it indirectly affects the reputation of Internet reviews in general, and therefore my reputation too. Advertising should always be explicitly designated as advertising - this, as for me, is an iron principle, for the violation of which one should punish universal contempt. To present an advertisement as an objective review is “about deceiving the confidant", For which under Genghis Khan they were executed in a surprisingly unpleasant way.

In general, the more these "reviews" praised the Highscreen Black Box Radar, the more I wanted to find a bunch of flaws in it. Therefore, I have not studied devices with such thoroughness for a long time ...

So, meet - HighscreenBlackBoxRadarplus: a device that combines a video recorder and a radar detector.

Readers, communicators and video recorders are sold under the Highscreen trademark - but their main specialization is smartphones (they say they are pretty good, they promised me to be sent for a test somehow). The brand belongs to the Russian company "Vobis Computer", which deals only with development, and orders production in China and Korea.

The gadget is packed in a box like this:

In addition to the device itself and the suction cup mount, it is completed with the following set:

Cigarette lighter power, USB to miniUSB lanyard, analog RCA cable. Unfortunately, there is no memory card included, which is a pity. Well, the instructions, of course - printed wonderfully in small print, as they specially tried. In order not to break my eyes, I immediately downloaded it from the manufacturer's website in PDF.

A nice feature - the feed device:

It has a power button and a power outlet for a standard USB cable - that is, with the gadget turned on, you can also charge your smartphone from the same outlet. Conveniently.

In general, I'll tell you right away the main features of this device, thanks to which it aroused my interest.

Chip number one - DVR and radar detector in one housing. This in itself is not common, but it does happen. And there would be no reason for conversation if it were not for ...

Chip number two - GPS module. GPS + video recorder is almost trite, I am. Moreover, this device seemed to me completely superfluous - well, how much use is there in the fact that it writes speed? This record will not prove anything to anyone. But GPS + radar detector is already something new. It was the joint work of these two modules that gave meaning to the presence of GPS in such a device. The fact is that the device has inside itself the base of the location of stationary video monitoring posts in different cities (even in Voronezh, by the way, it works!) And, tracking the location of the car, warns in advance that you are approaching it. Before the radar detector picks up the signal. This, I must say, is quite convenient.

The database is updated, but this process is not particularly user-friendly. You need to download and install a driver for the device from the site. It is necessary to bring the device from the car and connect it via USB. You need to run the updater on the site (only Internet Explorer, only hardcore! No other browser is suitable!) And you will see this window:

For 15 minutes it thinks about something inside itself, then the process ends. The database has been updated. To my disappointment, in our region, she knows stationary "frontiers" in the city, but does not know on suburban highways, although some have already been standing for five years. But all the same, the chip is good, I approve.

Chip number three - it is stated that the radar detector inside him confidently picks up the Strelka-ST complex from five hundred meters. Like this:

The trick is that most radar detectors either do not react to it at all, or react poorly and late. My "Cobra" for example, shyly squeaks up only when you drive up close. And the effective range of Strelka is 500 meters (less during the day in good weather, at night or in rain). A unique, by the way, purely Russian device, covers any Western counterparts in all respects. I would not have believed how this thing works cool if I had not seen the process from the inside - on the monitors of the traffic police video recording center.

It seems that you can make out this number with your eyes - but it calculates, come on. These used technologies, but for peaceful purposes ...

To be honest, I didn’t really believe that the Highscreen Black Box Radar plus would redeem it with any quality, I thought - well, a little better than my Cobra, maybe, but for half a kilometer? Yes, you will drown in false alarms with such sensitivity ...

However, I confirm - it works and is really stable. I drove around several points of installation "Shooter" - takes everywhere. Here's a video for you:

At the 39th second, you can see how I pass the “border” with the “Strelka” installed - the farm is above the road, the complex is in the middle of the farm. Installed in the same place "Chris" - decorative, only "Strelka" works. The detector starts beeping from the first second of the video (in fact, it started even a little earlier, but oh well) the speed is visible on the screen - 61 km / h. This means a kilometer per minute and triggering in 40 seconds - that's about 500 meters and will be. Notice my "Cobra" hanging next to (above the mirror):

didn't even squeak. From so and so.

Video in full resolution, without processing - 53 MB.

By the way, surprisingly, the system did not annoy with false positives. How they did it - God knows. Slightly more sensitive than my personal device in Route mode, but not dramatically. Oh yeah, the sensitivity level was set to "Medium" by default.

Here, I immediately dumped the main chips for you, now let's go in detail.

The device has the following form factor:

A parallelepiped with a folding screen. On the one side - an analog output and a slot for micro SD, on the other -

miniUSB, antenna connector for external GPS antenna ( has anyone ever seen them live, such antennas?) and power connector. Power supply with a round plug, allows 24 volts, so it is suitable for truckers. Does not power via USB, but the internal battery can be recharged. Oh yes - there is a battery (Li-polymer, 550 mAh).

Above - buttons for navigating the menu and switching modes (rather tricky, without instructions, not everything is calculated by typing):

Front lens, radar detector receiver and backlight LEDs. By the way, for the first time, at least somewhere, they wrote in Russian in white that they DO NOT SHOULD be turned on during regular shooting:

It is better not to use the backlight in travel mode at night, because it degrades the quality of the recording due to the backlight of the camera by the rays reflected from the windshield.

And then, after all, I directly met instructions that the backlight: " Designed to operate the DVR in the dark and in low light conditions"- and many seriously believe that heels of LEDs will illuminate the road where 110 watts of halogen head light failed.

Fastening to the windshield… And then the first big and greasy fly in the ointment. The mount is completely unsuccessful. Please note - this is the notch for the mount on the device:

The protrusion of the sucker bracket slides there:

And it is fixed with such a latch:

When you try to remove the device from the bracket, this wick flies off like a slingshot and strives to hit exactly the windshield deflectors. This tells us that this little thing will be lost inevitably and very quickly. That is, either every time you remove the device with the suction cup (which is not good for the suction cup), or not take it off at all, which is fraught with the fact that it will be resisted - this gadget has a very defiantly expensive look.

Well, in general, at such a cost of the device itself, on a normal, convenient and quick-detachable mount, one could not save ...

Using the buttons on top of the device, you can poke into the settings, which are quite a lot. However, they are in Russian and quite understandable:

You can, of course, just use the default ones, and not soar your head.

At the back, the device has an alphanumeric indicator that can show the time ( it syncs with satellitesGPS, therefore always accurate), movement speed ( you can configure a warning signal that will inform you when the speed threshold is exceeded), and triggering of the radar detector. In addition, on the left, there is something like a compass that shows where you are going with an accuracy of 45 degrees:

The button in the same place controls the DVR manually - turns it on, off and sets the protection against erasure. Of course, normally it turns on automatically when external power is applied, and erasure protection is set when the shock sensor is triggered.

Yes, let's move on to the DVR.

* Camera sensor: CMOS sensor, 5MP

* Processor: Ambarella A2S60

* Viewing angle: 130 degrees. diagonally

* Video recording resolution:

1920х1080, 30 fps

1440х1080, 30 fps

1280x720 30 fps

* Video compression algorithm: H.264

* Video file format: MOV

Alas, 130 degrees not horizontally, but along the diagonal of the frame (however, this is true for everyone, but not everyone writes it honestly), and even then, at maximum resolution the angle will be noticeably smaller. Here is a picture of the photo mode, all five honest megapixels are involved in it (interpolation up to 16 is possible, but why?) Click to open the full one, 2592x1594.

And here is a screenshot from a high-resolution video in Full HD 1920x1080, taken from the same point:

See how much smaller the angle is?

However, if you shoot video at a lower resolution, the angle will become wider, although the frame height will still be smaller than the photo. Here is a screenshot at 1280x720:

So choose - you wide or high quality.

Display - TFT matrix, 2.4˝, 320x240.

In general, enough to demonstrate to the persistent traffic cop that no, you did not cross a solid one, no matter what it seemed to him. The pictograms in the margins are intuitive.

Regarding the "legibility of numbers" so beloved by everyone - here is a screenshot of the moment where there are many numbers at different distances. Clickable:

How not to increase, not to make out a single one, except for the Nissan on the right, and even that is with difficulty ... So, despite all the fullhade, it only works almost closely:

In any case, in cloudy winter weather. And I have not yet seen a registrar that does it better. In general, if you drive into someone's stern, you will have time to write down the number. Another question - why do you need it then?

Now the second fat fly in the ointment - the device cannot be simply connected to a computer like a USB flash drive to download from it. I started thinking, maybe this is something wrong with me - I stuck it into different computers, it is not defined anywhere. And then I read in the instructions:

"... it is necessary to remove the card from the device and connect it to the computer through the adapter."

Damn it! With such a sophistication of iron - and the simplest is not able ... This, I tell you, is by no means an example of convenience and other user-friendly.

If the memory card is formatted in the device, then the Player folder will be created on it, where will it be, guess what? - right, the player. Like this:

You see, he even shows a map, where, in his opinion, I am moving at a speed of 68 km / h parallel to the M4 highway - about thirty meters away. The picture from the registrar shows that there is just at home ... But let's not quibble, it is, after all, all the same pampering - these maps, GPS tracks and other compasses. However, you still need to be able to get this picture, because at first it will be like this:

By default, there are no codecs for the MOV format in the system (my video is played by VLC, in which the codecs are built-in), so the manufacturer offers to download MOV_Decoder from his website. I recommend betting carefully, because by default he stuffed all sorts of slag into the system, like some kind of crooked player with a Chinese interface, making it default and for some reason demanded to disable user account control, which, of course, no one allowed him. Take the time to see what he is going to check and uncheck extra boxes. Better yet, just put in a normal codec pack like the K-Lite Codec Pack and we'll be happy.

However, it is time to jump to conclusions.

Conclusions:

HighscreenBlackBoxRadarplus - has a number of minor annoying flaws, but, in general, I surprisingly liked it. This is the rare case when the device turns out to be better than expected. As much as I would not like to curse him, but there is nothing to complain about seriously. All the declared functions work, and not bad. I would probably buy one for myself.

It costs about 9,000 rubles, but taking into account that it is "two in one", the price does not seem too high - a recorder of this quality and a radar detector, separately, will come out in about ten.

Production: Chinese assembly for Russia

For sale: in electronics stores, online stores

Region: everywhere

Price: about 9,000 rubles.

Tinted windshield can reduce the quality of the recorded information.

About the device During the trip, the device will record with a high degree of detail in Full HD format everything that comes into the field of view of the DVR camera.

As befits a "black box", Black Box Radar plus synchronously with video and audio recording, the device will record the coordinates of the route, the speed of your movement and the readings of the three-dimensional acceleration sensor.

A distinctive feature of the device is the presence of a highly sensitive radar detector that confidently receives signals from the vast majority of traffic police radars used in Russia.

The Strelka-ST complex is no exception.

Black Box Radar plus confidently receives the signal of this complex for 500

- 700 meters, while most radar detectors do not respond to this signal.

The built-in radar detector allows you to notify you in advance about the approach to the traffic police camera and draw your attention to the passage of this section of the road in compliance with the speed limit.

It should be noted that the device will not bother you with its messages about approaching the DPS camera if you move at a speed not exceeding the speed specified in the settings (for example, 60 km / h).

When driving, the device compares your current location with the coordinates of objects stored in memory.

From time to time, it will warn you about approaching dangerous areas, posts and traffic police cameras entered in the device database, about possible speeding on this section of the road, thus attracting your attention, and, as a result, the safety of your traffic in dense traffic flow.

While driving, the digital display of the device displays the current speed of the vehicle, determined by signals from the GPS satellite system, or the distance to the traffic police camera, object or dangerous area located in the direction of travel and entered into the device database.

When stopped, the device displays the exact current time.

When receiving GPS signals, the device synchronizes the internal real time clock with the clock of the satellite system.

That is why absolutely exact current time is superimposed on the video or photo.

The device does not require preliminary adjustment and painstaking study of the Operating Instructions. It is ready for operation immediately after purchase, since the optimal parameters are set at the factory.

It is enough to install the card, connect the power cable, and fasten the device to the windshield.

Information recording will start automatically as soon as you turn on the ignition.

Video footage recorded by the device can be viewed directly in the car on the built-in LCD display, which can be rotated at a convenient angle for viewing.

It often happens that watching a video at the scene of an accident is enough to resolve conflict situations that, from time to time, arise on the roads.

In this case, the information recorded by the device may be your only proof that the incident occurred through no fault of yours.

Having such a record can also further simplify your communication with the insurance company.

The device is equipped with a compact car holder that does not take up much space on the windshield of the car and allows you to fix the recorder at the required angle.

The package also includes a universal charger with a switch and a USB connector.

Thus, during the trip, you can, for example, recharge a device such as the iPAD, since the USB interface is capable of delivering current up to 2A.

It should be noted that the device has the ability to record not only video, but also to take photos with high resolution.

Moreover, both, the device can perform both inside the car and outside it, since it is equipped with a built-in battery, which provides the possibility of autonomous work up to 45 minutes.

In addition, the presence of a built-in LED light will allow you to shoot even in pitch darkness.

This, of course, is not about shooting during a trip, since in this case the use of the backlight will only lead to a deterioration in the recording quality.

From the very name of the device, it is easy to guess that it is a kind of analogue of the "black box"

- "Black Box", which is installed on airplanes and serves to record various parameters during the flight.

Your device also continuously records all kinds of information while driving.

The device is equipped with:

1. A high-definition Full HD (1080p) camera for detailed recording of everything that happens on the road.

The camera's viewing angle allows you to record the situation in detail over the entire width of the roadway.

2. A microphone for recording sound in the cabin.

3. Three-dimensional acceleration sensor (3D G-sensor), which allows recording acceleration, braking, turns, impacts, in a word, the movement of the vehicle in the vertical, longitudinal and transverse planes.

The timing diagram of the G-sensor readings can then be viewed in detail using the playback program.

4. Highly sensitive GPS-receiver, with the help of which the device very quickly determines your current coordinates, speed and direction of movement.

Comparing this information with the recorded database, the device warns you about speeding, approaching a dangerous section of the road or traffic police camera.

Subsequently, on a computer, you will be able to see not only the video recording of everything that came into the field of view of the device's camera, but also the route of your trip on the map, current coordinates and speed.

5. Built-in radar detector of a new generation, which picks up signals from traffic police cameras and warns in advance about approaching such a device to draw your attention to the passage of this section of the road in compliance with the speed limit.

Unlike other DVRs, Black Box Radar plus not only records information on the microSD card, but also reminds you in a timely manner about the need to comply with the speed limit (if you are moving at a speed exceeding the speed limit for a given road section) and about places where higher Attention.

Thus, the double effect of increasing your safety on the road is achieved.

On the one hand, you feel more comfortable and calm, because you know that the information recorded by the device can serve as proof of the legitimacy of your actions, on the other hand, timely information will allow you to make the right decisions in advance.

The device is equipped with the latest generation MTK signal processor, specially designed for a quick and accurate solution of the navigation task, which allows you to reliably determine your current location relative to dangerous areas on the road, traffic police cameras and inform you in advance about the approach to this place. In addition, the device's internal clock is synchronized with the GPS clock, so you don't have to worry about the accuracy and reliability of the recorded date and time.

Recording Video and audio information, sensor signals, GPS receiver data are recorded continuously or in fragments (depending on settings) on a microSD card. At the same time, the recording of fragments goes even with some overlap.

- each new fragment contains at the beginning about a second of the previous one.

This way, not a single second of your trip will be lost.

When the space allocated on the recording card is full, the new fragment is written over the oldest one.

Sensor recording If, while driving, the device registers a signal from an acceleration sensor that exceeds the threshold value set in the settings (the cause may be a shock, collision with an obstacle), then the information recorded for approximately one minute before the signal was received, and within a minute after will be stored in the non-erasable memory area on the microSD card.

This memory area (its size as a percentage of the total capacity of the microSD card can be set in the settings) is not overwritten even when the card is full.

The recorded information will be saved on the card, unless you interrupt the recording, or delete it when you want to clear the card.

However, if the non-erasable memory area is completely filled, the new information intended for writing to this area will be written over the old one.

Playback and Analysis of Recordings Recorded video and photo information can be viewed on the built-in LCD display by setting the device to player mode, or on a personal computer using the playback program that can be downloaded from www.highscreen.org. It should be noted that if the card is formatted in the device, the playback program is automatically written to the card.

The information recorded on the microSD can be analyzed in detail using the playback program.

The playback program plays audio and displays video data, as well as your speed, coordinates and direction at any given time.

Synchronously with the video, the program displays time diagrams of acceleration sensor signals and allows you to track your track on a map using the Google Maps service (provided that your computer is connected to the Internet).

However, to view the videos, you can use any playback program that can play videos in MOV format.

Increased The higher the level of sensitivity of the radar detector, the earlier it can inform you about the DPS camera.

However, the high sensitivity of the radar detector can lead to false alarms, since (especially in large cities) there are quite a few sources of radio emission operating in the same frequency ranges as the traffic police radars.

In city driving conditions, in order to reduce the likelihood of false alarms, it is recommended to choose a medium or low sensitivity level.

When driving on country roads near large cities, you can choose medium or high sensitivity.

An elevated level can be set when driving on roads that are located at a sufficient distance from industrial centers, where the probability of interference is small.

Setting parameters Highscreen Black Box Radar plus has several operating modes and 12 adjustable parameters, the values \u200b\u200bof which can be set by the user.

In 2011, you got acquainted with ours, and about a year later we published (it was presented in August 2012). Today we'll take a look at the flagship model.

This device is radically different from those recently reviewed and. This is not just a "box" that records video, but a whole set of devices in one small case. In the "black box" Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus housed a video recorder, a GPS receiver, and a radar detector.
I am glad that the market for DVRs is actively developing, and the developers of such devices not only chase after video quality, but also provide new functionality that is useful for the car owner. One of the interesting trends is hybrid devices that combine several functions in one case and, as a result, save space on the windshield of the car. But at the moment, such "hybrids" are still exotic.

If the question of the need for video recording of the situation on the road has already become commonplace, then the use of radar detectors rather depends on the region of residence. In the bulk of the regions of Russia, only standard cameras are used, and fixing the speed of cars is limited only by rare traffic police crews in the bushes. But there are regions such as Tatarstan, where local authorities and the traffic police often drive the hunt for drivers to marasmus, for example, portable cameras are often installed every 300-500 meters.

Of course, this is a broad topic for discussion, one can declare the need to strictly adhere to the established speed limits, and I am not a supporter of creating dangerous situations on the road, but still I consider the presence of a radar detector a daily necessity. I bought my main radar detector 3 years ago, having "caught" two fines of 10,00 rubles each on a suburban road with separate lanes, on which sections with a speed limit of 40 and 80 km / h alternated. The device quickly paid for itself.

Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus availability

At the time of the test, the average cost Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus is 8 990 rubles. In general, a separate recorder and radar detector can be purchased for this price.

Competitors include the Conqueror Car Black BOX (7,800 rubles, a similar body shape), Street Storm CVR-90FHD-G (8,950 rubles), Avita SG 1010 (8,312 rubles) and DATAKAM GS-800 (10,200 rubles).

Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus complete set

Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus Supplied in a white box. On the edges of the package there is a photograph of the recorder, as well as a description of its characteristics and advantages.

In addition to the device itself, a charger with a USB plug, a USB-miniUSB cable, an AV cable with tulips, a suction cup (glass fastener), instructions and a warranty card were found inside.

Separately, I note the presence of a USB-input for the charger. With it, you can recharge your mobile phone in your car without the need for a splitter.

Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus design

Structurally, the video recorder with a radar detector is a monoblock with a hinged cover. Primary colors Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus - black and red.

The flip cover houses a 2.4-inch display. On the front of the lid there is a brand logo and model name.

The second display is located on the edge directed towards the passenger compartment. It displays a radar signal indicator, an electronic compass, a data indicator. The type of information displayed on the central part depends on the situation - speed, time, battery charge, name of the menu item.

The controls are located on the upper part of the case - four keys plus one central button. Unfortunately, it will be problematic to figure out what each button is responsible for without a detailed study of the instructions.

The front panel has a video recording button. She is also responsible for enabling and disabling Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus... With it, you can start recording protected video.

The main body of the DVR is made of black soft-touch plastic, and the panels for displaying information are glossy.

The camera lens of the DVR is located on the left along with 4 infrared sensors.

On both side faces there are red corrugated inserts, they do not carry any functional load, but in general they make the design Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus more complete.

On the right is the microSD card slot and AV-out. The reason for the decision to use the microSD format is not very clear. Cards of this format are, albeit insignificantly, more expensive than full-fledged SD cards, and according to our previous tests, they live longer. With the AV-out, you can display the image on a TV or monitor. But, unfortunately, a regular video is displayed, the Google Maps map (about it below) is available only when viewed on a PC.

On the left is a miniUSB port, an input for a power adapter and a plug for an external GPS antenna cable.

In conclusion, I will note the fasteners for the windshield. Registrar Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus attaches to it on a kind of slide, until it clicks.

The fasteners hold onto the glass firmly due to a snug fit. No drops were noticed during testing.

Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus filling

The device records video in Full HD format with a resolution of 1920 * 1080 pixels, unlike the previous version, here is a real 1080p, not 720p. Diagonal viewing angle - 130 degrees.

You can set the length of time for loop recording (2, 5, 10 minutes). Supported cards up to 32GB allow you to store records for approximately 1 day of active driving. Important points can be protected with one click, such videos are not overwritten. The illumination system of four infrared diodes will allow night shooting or illuminate the face of a traffic police officer. Photography is also supported.

One of the main modules of the device is a radar detector. Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus notifies about cameras operating in the X, K, Ka, Ku band. Signals from the Strelka-ST complex are also recorded at a distance of 500-700 meters. It is possible to adjust the sensitivity. A useful functionality is the presence of a GPS module on board. In addition to the video, the route is recorded, which can be viewed on Google Maps when connected to a computer. This can help in disputable situations on the road when parsing in the traffic police, as well as fix the real speed during an accident.

There is also a G-sensor (acceleration sensor). It monitors the overload on three axes. In case of exceeding the threshold values \u200b\u200b(for example, hard braking), a minute recording starts in the indelible area on the memory card.

Acceleration diagram analysis software is supplied with the device.

The battery is a nice addition. On board is a 550 mAh battery. As a result, there is the possibility of autonomous shooting for about an hour.

Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus testing

The sample was tested by me for one week. During the active use, a general opinion was formed, pros and cons were identified. Everything in order.

I'll start with the radar detector function. The device was used in conjunction with Sho-Me (360 degree view). I managed to check how accurately it reacts Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus against the background of a conventional radar detector.

During use, a problem emerged: the test sample did not always launch the camera tracking function. I could not identify the reason, reconnection to the car's on-board network helped. Unfortunately, the indicators of the operation of this option in Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus not provided.

Against the background of Sho-Me, the Black Box has fewer false positives, but the fixing range is slightly shorter. This is all in the case of portable cameras, both devices see all standard radars the same way. In Kazan, the situation with radars is complicated, there are not just a lot of them, but a lot of them on the roads.

With such portable devices Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus copes a little worse, and he does not see the cameras directed in the direction of travel (shooting in the back). I would not dare to completely abandon the usual radar detector. This part, I believe, can be considered as a necessity in the complete absence of a separate radar detector in the car.

Video recording

As for the video, there were no complaints, with this task Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus copes perfectly well. Recordings are made in high quality; car numbers can also be disassembled. A separate plus is the presence of a swivel mechanism in the mount, the device can be rotated around the axis and filmed an overview video, an example of a video:

An example of a video in sunny weather with ideal lighting:

An example of a video at night (only car headlights):

Accident while driving (already consequences):

An example of a video recorded at home without connecting to a power source:

An example of a video using the program FH-118 Player with GPS map output:

Sample photo:

According to the instructions, this program should be on the memory card. I did not have a microSD card in the kit, I used a third-party card. In such cases, the program can be downloaded from the Highscreen website.

Video is recorded in MOV format using the H.264 video codec at 30 frames per second. There are no complaints about the videos.

Video review Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus

Outcome

Device Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus - interesting and noteworthy. A DVR with GPS and a radar detector are combined in one box. Summing up, I will note the pluses:

Real Full HD 1090p at 30 m / s,
- quality of materials,
- reliable fastening,
- POI points and Strelka radar detection,
- G-sensor and GPS,
- battery,
- cost,
- the presence of USB in the car charger case. Of the minuses, I noted for myself problems with the radar detector in difficult conditions of use, periodic problems with connecting this module (it was recorded three times a week, it can probably be solved with a new firmware), and the sensor itself catches cameras aimed at the car (360 degrees review here would be). Another big question is setting Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus, dealing with it without studying the instructions is problematic.

In general, this sample deserves attention, the trend of development of the functionality of DVRs pleases. We will continue to monitor the development of this area. Highscreen Black Box Radar Plus gets a solid four (minus for tuning).
