The leader was black (11 months of use).

Do you use it until now? If not, why did you break up with him?

Actually, I planned to leave it as a standby option, but an acquaintance approached me with a request to sell him a phone. In the end, I reluctantly agreed.

How did you get this phone?

Lately I have been buying all my phones from wholesale companies, 3 copies were no exception.

By what criteria was he chosen?

To be honest, for me in recent years the main criterion is that the phone belongs to the 6th series of Nokia. Starting with, I try to test all monoblocks of this line (I like them). The only exception was the 6500 Classic - I didn’t find a single advantage in it in comparison with the All black (I’m not interested in an improved player), well, which, it seems, was mistakenly attributed to business class.

What do you like? Strengths telephone, dignity.

1. The main thing for me in a phone is the quality of communication. Everything is fine with this - good reception, good voice transmission (in both directions). In general, there is nothing to complain about.

2. I really like the tightly built one. metal case this model. After it, there is no longer any desire to switch back to plastic. Of course, there are some complaints (each color has its own - more on that later), but overall the impressions are positive.

3. It took about three months to get used to the volume, and most importantly to the quality of the call dynamics, but this is only because I switched from, and this model is still the leader among Nokia phones according to these parameters. If you don’t compare the speaker with a stereo pair from, then everything is fine with it - it plays quite loudly and clearly, provided that Register 1 of the equalizer is activated. This is the setup I use.

4. Excellent display with a mirror backing (information is visible in sunny weather). After 16 million colors, the screen (262k) is no longer interesting to watch - the difference in the quality of the displayed image is significant.

5. Due to the implementation of full support for Flash Lite 2.0 in the device, it became possible to install Flash files on the background image various types(with clock, date, network signal strength and battery charge indicators, etc.). In general, it is highly customizable, which prompted me to create hundreds of swf files and themes (most of them are ).

6. I liked the fact that it has a common miniUSB connector. There is no cable included, but it can be easily found in any computer store for 30-50 rubles. This cable can also be found in a set of devices already existing in the house - a digital camera, a DECT phone, etc.

7. The Photo Call function in the phone is implemented perfectly. The subscriber's photo is displayed almost on the entire screen.

If you are interested in the maximum quality of displaying photos, then in a graphic editor you need to prepare jpg files of size 240x246, then after assigning them to contacts, you need to open the Pbimgs folder (C --> Hiddenfolder) through MobiMB 3.3.91 or 3.5.31 and copy all those created by the phone jpeg files on PC. Next, take the original jpg files (of normal quality) and rename them (changing the extension to *.jpeg) in accordance with the names assigned by the phone. That's it, after copying (with replacing files) the renamed photos back to the Pbimgs folder, we get a high-quality picture with incoming call, i.e. original, not pressed by the phone.

8. The model has very stable software. My first Silver-black had firmware v 05.00 installed. I did not find any problems, glitches, or freezes with this version of the software, however, after 05.00, five more official firmware for Russia were released (05.50, 06.01, 06.60, 07.00 and 07.21). There is also the latest firmware version for - v 07.30, but for some reason the manufacturer decided that it was not needed for the CIS countries, and did not include the Cyrillic Product Code in it. For those who are familiar with flashing Nokia (BB5) phones via Phoenix or JAF, this neglect is not a problem. It is enough to Russify the ppm file yourself, and you can safely flash the phone to the most latest version 07.30.

Unfortunately, the first attempts at Russification were unsuccessful. The version of the PPModd program available at that time did not set the Russian language quite correctly; as a result, when T9 was disabled, the space bar did not work, and there was no voice dialing in Russian. The problem was solved very simply - instead of the Turkish ppm file from 07.30, the phone needs to be flashed with a Russian ppm file from 07.21. As a result, everything works as expected, all that remains is to replace the English calculator and e-mail client with Russified jar files and that’s it (I posted the version 07.30 Russified in this way). Having changed the software from 07.21 to 07.30, I noticed a slightly increased volume of the call speaker, a slightly increased speed of menu navigation and the absence of a glitch with frames, which was on 07.21. I didn't find any other significant changes.

For myself, I make a couple more amendments to the ppm file - through PPModd I remove languages that I don’t need in the menu (I leave only Russian and English) and through WinHex I block all the sounds of the voice recorder, making it absolutely silent when recording a conversation. The disadvantage of this blocking is that when the camera sounds are turned on, video recording does not start, but for “real spies” these sounds are always turned off, so problems with video recording do not arise.

What's not to like? Weak sides, flaws.

I didn’t find any serious shortcomings for myself, so I’ll only mention minor ones, and also name some problems (and ways to solve them) that other users of this model pointed out.

1. The assembly of the Silver-black case can be safely called ideal, which cannot be said about the All black assembly. On the left side the gap between the metal top panel and the plastic is larger than on the right, and at a certain angle the display backlight is visible. It's good that dust doesn't get through this gap. But the black version has a significant advantage - such a device practically does not collect small scratches. The silver version cannot boast of this - the metal cover and glossy plastic of the rear panel quickly become covered with small scratches even with very careful use.

2. After turning on the key lock, it takes a long time to go into economy mode (the backlight does not go out). You have to “adjust” it with the end call key.

3. After a long time I could not get used to the fact that the phone cannot play and record videos larger than 176x144 (an artificial marketing limitation).

In general, the camera is not particularly important to me, but I immediately noticed the purple spot that is present in the center of every picture taken (there were no spots).

4. Starting with the 6230i, Nokia began to introduce a feature in all models with an increasing ringtone when the maximum (fifth) volume level is selected in the signal settings. The problem can be solved by installing 3gp or mp4 videos on the call; they are played immediately at full volume without any increase, but this solution has one drawback - if a picture is assigned to the subscriber, then when there is an incoming call it goes to the lower right corner and it the size becomes minimal.

Finding the required high-quality mp4 file on the Internet is not easy, so it is better to take a ready-made mp3 fragment and, using, for example, XviD4PSP 5.0, convert it to mp4 format with a minimum resolution (there will be no picture anyway).

5. I like the speech speaker, I think it is loud, especially after the speaker, and of high quality, but there were owners in the forums who were not satisfied with its volume. Before going to the service center, you should first try to clean the speaker grill with alcohol or vodka - it often helps.

6. I won’t criticize the standard BL-4C 860 mAh battery, because... in my mode (calls only), it easily lasted a couple of days, and it was not difficult for me to charge it once every two or three days. What I really didn’t like was the weak included AC-3 charger, which takes about 2 hours 50 minutes with a discharged battery, so I charged all mine using AC-4 (890 mA) - the time it takes to fully charge the BL-4C at 860 mAh is 1 hour 15 minutes.

By the way, for the sake of experiment, I tried to install the original BL-5C with 1020 mAh, melted at the ends (in the contact area) (removed from the new 3110 Classic). The operating time on one charge in my mode increased by 25-30%. In general, I didn’t notice any significant difference, so I presented this battery together with Silver-black.

7. Some users are dissatisfied with the player's performance due to problems associated with the long update of the music library, as well as freezing and rebooting of the phone that can occur during this update. In most cases, a glitch with the music library can be solved by deleting the music.db file from the Hiddenfolder folder via MobiMB and then rebooting the phone.

8. Perhaps one of the disadvantages is the work of the Nokia Software Updater program, which the manufacturer offers users to do an official software update. Very often you come across messages in forums that after such an update the Russian language disappears (for gray devices) or the phone even dies (refuses to turn on). Those who updated without problems note the presence of old glitches that were present in the previous version of the software.

The whole point is that Nokia Software Updater does not know how to flash 100%, because to fully change the firmware you need three files - *.mcusw (the firmware itself), *.ppm ( language pack) and *.image (content), and NSU flashes with only two files (*.mcusw and *.ppm). This program ignores content files with the extension *.image. As a result of such an update, the version of the firmware itself changes (checked by code *#0000#), but all user data - address book, messages, personal files, all garbage in the Hiddenfolder folder, content from the old version (checked by code *#0010#) , as well as glitches, if they were, for example, with the same music library, remain.

You can fully flash it at home only through Phoenix or JAF, because when you press the Refurbish (in Phoenix) or FLASH (in JAF) button, the device will be flashed with three files - the result will be a new one, just like from the factory (in terms of software) phone. Also, through these programs you can restore a dead phone, for example, through the same NSU. By the way, many users begin to get acquainted with Phoenix and JAF just after the unsuccessful official update.

Review

Fashion for ultra-thin mobile devices is now in full swing. Nokia could not help but support the fashion trend, and, as a result, on store shelves mobile communications the Nokia 6300 appeared. The device is not intended to set records with its thickness, but given that the body is made of stainless steel, as well as a wide range multimedia capabilities, the phone should take, in terms of popularity, if not first, then one of the prizes in the middle class.

Appearance

The body of the device is made using plastic and stainless steel as materials. The contour of the phone is framed in a metal frame. The cover covering the battery is also made of steel. In some devices, it may be difficult to close it tightly; the lid does not slide in all the way. Perhaps this is due to the use of not entirely successful latches.

The back of the case, as well as the plate protecting the display, is made of lacquered plastic. Unfortunately, even on steel parts, small scratches and abrasions appear very quickly. There is no backlash at all. All parts fit almost perfectly. The length of the device is 106.4 mm, width - 43.6 mm, thickness - 11.7 mm.

The number keys are made of metal-like plastic. There are almost no gaps between the buttons, which may cause inconvenience for people with large fingers. The four-way key that replaces the joystick is very convenient to use, which cannot be said about the other two function keys and call acceptance/rejection buttons - they could have been made larger. Backlight numeric keypad has a bluish tint, the inscriptions on the buttons are clearly visible in poor lighting.

On the right side of the phone there is a rocker key for volume control (during calls) and sound (in multimedia applications). The phone's on/off key is located at the top of the device and is deeply recessed into the body, thereby preventing its accidental pressing. Unfortunately, there are no other additional keys.

At the junction of the device body and the battery cover there are two miniature white inserts. At first it may seem that this is just a design move, but, in fact, two blue diodes are hidden under the inserts, signaling, for example, missed calls.

The phone has two speakers. The multimedia speaker is located on the back of the case next to the camera window. The sound quality is pretty good high level, but if the phone is on the table, sound signal is greatly muted.

The camera is located on the back wall of the device and, in addition to the decorative design in the form of a silver outline, cannot boast of the presence of a mirror for self-portraits, a flash, or autofocus.

The limitation for recording videos is free space. The video is recorded in 3GP H263 format in two resolutions: 176x144 and 128x96. It is possible to specify three options for the quality of the image itself, although the best quality leaves much to be desired.

Interesting point about zoom. It works when shooting video - good. The zoom is a banal crop of maximum 1600 x 1200 pixels.

And here is his work when taking photos.

This image has a 0% zoom and a resolution of 1600 x 1200.

This photo has a 50% zoom, making the image resolution 640 x 480

Shooting in the dark or at a bad time of day will not please anyone. Without activating the “night mode”, little is visible, and when activated, the shutter speed increases many times over. If you are not a “tripod person”, it will be difficult to take a good photo. In addition, the noise level is very high.

At the bottom end of the case there is a connector for connecting charger, 2.5 mm audio output, as well as a miniUSB port covered with a plastic cap. There is no cable for connecting the phone to a PC in the package. But it may come from another device - a portable mp3 player or HDD drive.

The phone is equipped with a two-inch QVGA TFT display capable of displaying up to 16.7 million colors. The image is of very high quality.

In the sun, the display behaves perfectly: any information remains readable even under direct rays, only the colors completely fade.

Brightness cannot be adjusted by any means standard settings. However, when reading JAVA books packed with TequilaCat Book Reader, all 10 levels are supported without problems.

The phone supports hot swapping of cards microSD memory, but getting to the slot is not so easy - it is located under the battery cover. Included accumulator battery has a capacity of 860 mAh and, under average load, can ensure the normal “life activity” of the device without additional charging for two days.

Menu

The phone's menu has remained virtually unchanged compared to phones of the same class. The updated S40 3d Edition Feature Pack 2 platform is used as pre-installed software. The menu can be displayed by selecting one of the 4 proposed view options: list, icons, tabs, or icons and captions. In total, the menu contains 11 tabs: messages, contacts, call log, settings, gallery, multimedia, Internet, organizer, applications, PPT and SIM menu.

The order in which menu items are displayed can be set as you wish. You can change and appearance menu icons and color scheme by applying one of the pre-installed themes, or download additional themes yourself. The cursor moves through the menu quite quickly, with virtually no delays. If you switch to a removable memory card, pauses when opening folders and files increase significantly; in total, it depends both on the number of files in the folders and on the files themselves. For example, a folder with 100 game files opens in two and a half seconds, but a folder with 100 mp3 files opens in a quarter of a second.

The phone book can hold up to 1000 entries. In addition to the standard information for one contact, you can add a PPT address, address Email, a video fragment or a specific sound signal, Internet address, organization, position, official name or nickname, residential address, date of birth, note and image that will be displayed when calling.

We couldn't find anything new in the organizer. It contains standard items for Nokia devices: alarm clock, calendar, to-do list, notes, calculator, timer and stopwatch.

The file manager allows you to display files and folders in three options - in the form of a grid, a simple list or a list with information. Files can be sorted by name, date, format and size.

It is very convenient to use the active mode. This mode allows you to set up quick access to any application or phone function, place a shortcut directly on your desktop, or instantly view the list of planned tasks for today.

Multimedia

7.8 MB of phone memory is available to the user. The package includes a microSD memory card with a capacity of 128 MB. Games and additional programs are initially located on the memory card, but, if desired, they can be moved to the phone memory. The phone is equipped with Macromedia Flash Lite 2.0 player.

On the memory card you can also find additional sounds, melodies and graphics.

The player in the phone is similar to the music models Nokia 5200 and 5300. The quality of sound reproduction both through headphones and through the speaker is at a high level. The equalizer contains five preset modes- Normal, Pop, Rock, Jazz and Classical. The user can configure two modes at his own request.

The phone boasts an on-board stereo FM radio. The radio receiver is highly sensitive, there is both an automatic search for radio stations and the ability to manually enter the required radio frequency and save the coordinates of the wave you like.

The Nokia 6300 is equipped with a 2 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom. The maximum possible resolution of the resulting photographs is 1600x1200 pixels. As we have already noted, the camera lacks both autofocus and flash. Photos look good on a phone display, but when viewed on a PC monitor, the quality of the photos leaves much to be desired. Photos good quality can only be obtained with good lighting, using night mode is almost useless at times.

When shooting, you can use the self-timer and burst mode. There are six additional effects - Normal, False Color, Grayscale, Sepia, Negative and Overexposure. You can entrust white balance correction to automation or select one of the proposed modes - daylight, incandescent lamp or fluorescent lamp.

Among the multimedia applications, it is also worth noting the presence of a simple voice recorder, the ability to activate stereo expansion and direct access to equalizer settings without starting the player.

Communications

Nokia 6300 is designed to work in GSM/EDGE networks (900/1800/1900; 850/1800/1900). Supports Bluetooth 2.0 protocols (SIM Access, Headset and Handsfree profiles) and EDGE (EGPRS) Class 10.

The phone also supports 3GPP video streaming, Push-to-Talk technology, an xHTML browser and is compatible with Java MIDP 2.0 technology.

Synchronization with a computer is easily accomplished using the standard Nokia PC Suite software, which can be found on the included disk. For synchronization, you can use either a USB connection or the Bluetooth protocol.

The phone's firmware can be updated using FOTA technology by downloading new software directly from the network.

Models

The Nokia 6300 series of phones includes the following body modifications:

Nokia 6300 Silver Black - the same as just Nokia 6300

Nokia 6300 Black - completely black

Nokia 6300 Red - metallic with red panel

Nokia 6300 Green - metallic with green panel

Nokia 6300 Green&Black - metallic green with black panel

Nokia 6300 Blue&Black - metallic blue with black panel

Nokia 6300 Brown&Black - metallic brown with black panel

Nokia 6300 White - metallic with white panel

Nokia 6300 Gold - metallic gold with black panel

They also experiment by inserting, say, a metallic keyboard into a black case.

There may be other options not mentioned.

As far as I know, only Nokia 6300 and Nokia 6300 Black are original variations.

Nokia 6300 White

Attention! Nokia 6300 Black and Nokia 6300i are absolutely different models. Maybe this goes without saying for some, but when the last one appeared, it was a problem for me to find out.

Nokia 6300 Black

Nokia 6300i is a direct successor to Nokia 6300, with the main difference between basic version and its successor will be the emerging support for Wi-Fi. Thus, new phone is capable of making calls not only through regular cellular networks, but also using VoIP telephony. It is worth noting that the Nokia 6300i phone will be the manufacturer’s first device, created on the basis of the S40 platform, in which the application will be pre-installed Nokia Maps, we also managed to find out that equalizers are organized differently in it. The phone comes with a 512 MB microSD memory card.

Nokia 6300, Nokia 6300 Classic, Nokia 6301, Nokia 6300i are also different models. Now you can see the differences on the manufacturer’s website. Oddly enough, all of them are present only, but on nokia.ru it seems that not all of the mentioned models are available yet.

Problems, solutions

"Invisible" memory card. A problem that a number of users encountered: the phone simply stopped finding the memory card in the Gallery. A similar situation happened with the tested sample.

Alas, everyone makes mistakes sometimes. A batch of Nokia 6300 phones went on sale without the necessary resistor on the board. In simple words- manufacturing defects. We dare to assure you that the batch was small and now you are unlikely to find a phone with such a defect on the shelves. All service centers are aware of the problem, so there is nothing to worry about - the phone can be repaired.

The # key does not enable Silent mode. The nature of this “glitch” is unknown, it is only clear that it does not depend on the firmware version. The way out is simple - add the mode to “Active” or use the top button. You can also try using third party programs, but this is at your own peril and risk.

Extraneous noise from the speech speaker during a conversation. Found only on devices with firmware version 4.70. Reflashing even to 4.71 already eliminates the problem. It is known that phones are now shipped with version 6.01. When I bought it, I had two Nokia 6300 Black devices in my hands, both of them beeped in the voice speaker during a conversation. As a result, I took another one, Nokia 6300. Although not constantly, as in those, sometimes there is also a squeak, similar to the squeak of the scan transistor of a CRT monitor.

Reducing energy consumption for the paranoid

(suitable for both Nokia 6300 and other phone models - the principle itself is important)

Turning off permanent Bluetooth:

Settings>Connectivity>Bluetooth>Bluetooth>Off

Settings>Connectivity>Bluetooth>My phone"s visibility>Hidden

We turn off permanent EDGE/GPRS:

Settings>Connectivity>Packet data conn.>When needed

We remove background animations and the screensaver - the processor uses a lot of energy to process them:

Settings>Display>Wallpaper>Off or select .jpg or .png

Settings>Display>Screen Saver>Off

We turn on the energy saving mode, it will show the date and time instead of Screensaver:

Settings>Display>Power Saver>On

Turn on Sleep mode - after a while the display will turn off completely (but the phone will continue to work):

Settings>Display>Sleep mode>On

We disable functions that are unnecessary, although rare, but use energy:

Settings>Display>Cell info display>Off

Messaging>Info messages>Info service>Off

We set the voice quality of communication to be slightly worse due to the reduction in energy consumption (imperceptible, and there is an opinion that this is just the opposite, when this option is turned off, then the interlocutor hears the phone user better):

Settings>Call>Voice clarity>Inactive

We set the default telecom operator so that no attention is paid to others:

Settings>Phone>Operator selection>Manual> parenkame savo operatoriu

Removing the help text:

Settings>Phone>Operator selection>Help text activation>Off

If you don’t need an archive of sent SMS, disable:

Messaging>Message settings>General settings>Save sent messages>No

We cut off the SMS delivery confirmation:

Messaging>Message settings>Text messages>Delivery reports>No

Messaging>Message settings>Multimedia messages>Delivery reports>No

It is also advisable to disable the following functions:

Settings>Display>Active standby>Active standby mode>Off

Settings>Display>Navigation key icons>Off

I wouldn’t want to turn off the vibration, but the paranoid should know that during operation this significantly reduces energy costs. You can also make the tone type Accending.

When talking, try to be in an area where the antenna shows more good connection, - thus the transmitter will use less electrical energy to broadcast the signal.

Attention!

1. This whole procedure costs nothing if you drain your phone by playing games, running programs or otherwise actively using processor resources. Therefore, do not say that you did not feel anything after these installations.

2. We must remember that if the phone performs its true functions (providing voice communication), then the battery charge duration will tend to that indicated in the technical specifications (Although 14.5 days is somehow not realistic).

3. And don’t say that if I don’t use other functions, then why the hell do I need it?

Useful Settings

A useful feature that I also wouldn’t want to give up is the ability to monitor another call during a conversation. If it is not active, then the third person who tries to call an already connected (talking) user will have a short ringing signal; if it is active, then the user will see that there is a call and will be able to answer or make a conference:

Settings>Call>Call waiting>Activate

Summary of session duration after conversation:

Settings>Call>Summary after call>On

Automatic keyboard lock (if it is not already installed):

Settings>Phone Settings>Automatic keyguard>On

Removing the annoying tone when you turn on the phone:

Settings>Phone Settings>Start-up tone>Off

I set my font size to the smallest size - this way more information fits on the screen:

Settings>Display>FontSize>Messaging>Small font

Settings>Display>FontSize>Contacts>Normal font

Settings>Display>FontSize>Web>Small font

I’m not used to graphic emoticons, so I cut them off:

Messaging>Message settings>General settings>Graphical smileys>No

Parking with GPRS/EDGE, SMS, MMS and e-mail settings

Well... this is probably the most painful topic.

First, make sure that you actually have a top-up account in your plan. mobile operator There is such a service and no additional activations are needed.

The best solution is to contact your operator, he will tell you (he will tell you everything :)))

There is such a service as receiving settings via SMS. For example, with the Bite operator you can send an SMS to number 1500 with the text START and they will send you the data, all you have to do is activate it with one click of a button.

You can also try to install manually

(But still, in this regard, there are some things that still remain a mystery to me)

find out

1.Intermediate server IP:Port

3.User and password, if available

1.SMS sending service center number

1.Message server

2.Gateway IP:Port

4.User and password, if available

1.SMTP server IP:Port, user, password

3.Actually the e-mail itself :) for example, [email protected]

4.POP3 server IP:Port, user, password

A list of non-building conditions for some operators can be seen here:

If everything is fine with GPRS, but only MMS does not work, try checking the settings here:

Hurray, everything worked out!

If it doesn’t work out, we install the factory settings again, test again for the presence of GPS (so as not to embarrass ourselves), and boldly take a big step to the provider’s salon and express to him our views on life.

Firmware update

Can I update the software of my Nokia device and do I need to do so?

First, check if there are any software updates available for your device. Compare current version software installed on your device with the latest available software version.

Step 1/2: Check current software version

To find out the current software version, you must enter the combination *#0000# from the keyboard of your device. My device's version number is as follows: V 06-01-08 RM-217

Step 2/2: Find out if the software can be updated

You can determine the latest version of software available for your device by looking at the product code located on the white sticker under the battery. The code looks like this:

Enter the product code at http://europe.nokia.com/A4577224 in the field below and click Go.

Update the firmware directly from the phone menu itself (FOTA)

Settings>Phone>Phone updates>Downl. phone softw.>Yes

Download to PC

Use the Nokia Software Updater app to easily update the software of your Nokia 6300.

Install and follow the instructions.

Attention!

Flashing a phone's firmware is a rather delicate thing. The consequence of a failed firmware update, say, due to an interrupted connection with the phone (cable break, power loss, system failure), can bring you a lot of inconvenience, such as failure to start the phone, a visit to the workshop, refusal of warranty service, etc. Therefore, please treat to this procedure properly.

Before updating the firmware, please complete the following requirements:

1. Remove all feathered, furry, flea-infested and other potential culprits from the room when the connection with the phone is broken during the firmware, close the windows if they are open and lock the doors.

2. Make sure that the phone and computer are connected to the power supply, or even better, to an uninterruptible power supply.

3.Close all unnecessary applications on your computer: WinAmp, eMule, CS close everything that is unnecessary (however, do not overdo it with services and processes). Check for viruses and Trojans. Close all shares so that no one uses the resources of your computer.

4. Make sure that all cables are securely connected and that the sockets are working properly.

5.Call the power supply and ask if they are going to turn off the power in the near future.

6. Warn anyone who might suddenly disturb you, cut off all other phones.

7.Are you confident of success? - we sit down comfortably and, holding our breath, - let’s stitch!

Useful tips

Security code

Like all Nokia phones, the Security code on the new phone will be: 12345

Many people know this; an attacker can, say, block all calls and change the Security code to something else. In this case, you will probably have to reflash the device.

How to avoid this?

1.Do not give your device into the wrong hands.

2.Change the Security code, just be careful - don’t forget the new code.

Photo/video

In order for the video to be recorded for as long as there is space on the memory card, and not for 15 minutes, select the following options

Media>Video>Options>Settings>Image/Video storage>Memory card

Media>Video>Options>Settings>Video clip length>Maximum

I also recommend setting up

Media>Video>Options>Settings>Image quality>High

Media>Video>Options>Settings>Image size>1600x1200

Media>Video>Options>Settings>Video clip quality>High

Media>Video>Options>Settings>Video resolutions>176x144

Media>Video>Options>Settings>Image preview time>No preview - and so on, for now it saves to disk

Media>Video>Options>Settings>Camera sounds>Off

Media>Video>Effects>Normal

Media>Video>Effects>White balance>Auto

Sun

Avoid direct sunlight on your favorite mobile phone, especially the lens. The sun's rays have a harmful effect on the matrix, sometimes because of this, dead spots can even form on it.

pros

Compact, ergonomic, beautiful steel-plastic housing. The two rounded corners of the battery cover are somewhat similar to the edges of the iPhone. Nice.

The battery cover fits snugly and does not wobble (at least for now). Don't be alarmed if the lid of the new phone opens and closes with a characteristic crunching sound - this will be developed later.

The miniUSB socket is protected by a plastic plug, this is good, but it’s an infection, somehow it also opens alarmingly.

Possibility to increase memory using a microSD memory card.

Great display.

Convenient navigation.

Good functionality (OS S40 3th).

Support Bluetooth standard 2.0 (A2DP, OBEX).

JAVA, flash, e-mail: pop3, smtp, imap, good calculator, equalizers.

The sound of the multimedia speaker is quite high-quality and loud, although at maximum, slight distortion still appears at some frequencies.

The quality of voice communication is not bad, and the quality of conversation is also not bad when the speaker is turned on.

Not bad quality GSM communications, - oddly enough, because of the metal case it is no worse.

I read somewhere that the metal body of the phone can somewhat reduce the radiation exposure to the user's flesh. Whether this is true or not, I don’t know, but I like it.

I really liked the blinking of the side LEDs when there were missed calls or unread SMS.

I liked the idea of using the "#" key to enable Silent mode.

I really liked the following thing: Usually, when talking with an interlocutor, if the battery runs out, the phone makes sounds “bleep-bleep-bleep” and unceremoniously turns off the phone, at the same time you have time to say “- I have ...” and that’s it. In this case, after playing “blee-blee-blee”, the display shows the inscription “Shutting down display” letter by letter, while there is an additional 4...5 seconds before the connection is interrupted!

Photo - 1600x1200 is not bad, although good quality is obtained only with excellent lighting, in other models there is better quality, but, as they say, there are cameras for photography. I was pleased with the White balance and photo effects (Greyscale, Sepia, Negative, Solarize), although they are probably not necessary.

Minuses

The use of functions associated with processor resources is quite resource-hungry. There is an opinion that during the process of, for example, a 3D game, the battery is discharged in the same way as when talking on the phone.

Even though the case is steel, no matter how much I take care of it, small scratches still appear little by little on both the metal and the glossy plastic; a decent case is definitely needed.

The volume buttons are inconvenient.

I don’t even know if this is a minus, but still, when you write SMS with one hand, due to the fact that the keyboard is quite low, your thumb quickly gets tired :)

The camera lacks autofocus and flash.

Automatic keyboard lock does not work if something other than the main menu is active.

The inconvenient built-in music player - in particular playlists - can be corrected by using it. another player, for example, KDPlayer, although it cannot be background in this device :(

Inconvenient built-in browser. Opera mini is used instead

It's a shame, but equalizers don't work with radios.

There are problems with certificates and Application Access (this applies not only to this phone, but in general).

With remaining battery power<=25% нет возможности снимать видео и фотографировать.

The video is disgusting. It’s not clear why there is a function to degrade the already disgusting quality (High-Normal-Basic).

I would like a built-in screensaver with a large clock. You can download a third-party screensaver, but the question is how this will affect the battery.

I would like more bars on the battery charge and antenna signal level indicator. In my opinion, 4 divisions is not enough.

I would like more volume control bars, especially on the quiet side.

There is no adjustment of the intensity of the display.

There is no adjustment for display duration.

It is catastrophically bad that there is no request function when there is an attempt to use GPRS/EDGE (for example, in the radio Option>Station directory). In older models there was this request function; it was located in the Settings> Connectivity> Packet data conn.> Ask menu

Well, of course all the pros outweigh all the cons! :)

Attention!

I presented all the pros and cons purely based on my own views, worldviews and conclusions, and they do not necessarily have to coincide with anyone else’s.

Additional acquisitions

1.Actually, the BL-5C 1020mAh battery is ~14$ (very lucky, usually ~40$, I’m surprised, maybe the saleswoman’s mistake...)

2.PQI 2Gb microSD memory card ~16$

(Memory cards are supported with a capacity of no more than 2Gb! Because the phone does not support HDSC)

3.An angled adapter from small to large audio plug ~$4

4. Prices are indicated for May 2008. I do not indicate the location - knock on the comments.

5. I’m going to buy decent headphones (although the ones included in the kit are also okay) and a case - in my pockets there is always all sorts of dirt and dust that can get into the headphone and charging socket, and out of habit, when inserting the plug, it can be pushed deeper into the phone.

The fashion for thin telephone sets introduced by the American by Motorola and which brought it colossal increases in profit, could not remain unnoticed by the Finnish manufacturer for long. However, despite the fact that Nokia was in no hurry to enter the arms race with the minimum number of millimeters, further ignoring the popularity of thin, thinnest and even thinner threatened the company with the loss of a large market share.

At the same time, releasing another clone of models from other manufacturers that have been selling for a long time would not be a good solution, and at the end of 2006 Nokia of the year introduced the 6300 model, formally belonging to the classic series. In fact, it is precisely this positioning that distinguishes the device from its closest analogues - the Motorola SLVR series and Samsung X820, which are more fashion devices.

Taking into account the fact that Nokia 6300 uses expensive body materials - most of it is made of metal, has a calm classic design, fairly high functionality, but at the same time promises to be affordable, the model will clearly be popular.

In principle, the software of the device is very similar to the manufacturer’s previously released devices - 5300, 7373, therefore there will be no big differences in the description of the standard functionality of the Series40v3 FP2 platform.

Nokia 6300:: Review:: Design and Features

Nokia 6300 is one of those models that look much worse in official photos than they look in real life. The photo is not able to convey the matte shine of the metal case, the gloss of the plastic, and the device looks simple and boring. However, in reality the 6300 makes a completely different impression; the device, despite the rigor of its design, looks really stylish.

As already mentioned, most of the body is made of metal, this is steel, we saw a similar design in Nokia models N91 and E50. There is quite a bit of plastic; the insert around the screen and the upper part of the case are made of it - the location of the built-in antenna.

There are no complaints about the quality of the metal; it feels identical to what is used in the Nokia N91. In the E50 device, its structure is slightly different; the material seems more grainy in appearance.

The plastic used in the model is glossy and of good quality. The downside is that it gets dirty easily and you have to wipe it frequently. In addition, scratches and abrasions quickly begin to appear on the back surface of the phone, and this also applies to the metal battery cover.

The keyboard of the model is made of plastic, and digital domain made to look like metal, while navigation buttons and the call and end call keys are transparent, the markings are printed on the backing, which, when the backlight is on, creates interesting effect, they are reflected on the edges of the buttons. The navigation key is large and comfortable, there is no backlight.

The digital buttons are comfortable in size, they have a small but clear stroke, their backlight is bright, uniform, and light blue.

The side edges of the device are practically devoid of control buttons; on the right side of the 6300 you can only find a paired volume key. But on both sides there are two indicators, which at first glance can be mistaken simply for the latches of the battery cover. However, they may flash blue when various events occur. Unfortunately, it is impossible to customize the operation of the indicators, as was possible in the Nokia E50.

The bottom end of the device boasts a 2.5 mm jack for connecting an audio headset, a connector for a thin charger, microphone holes and a lanyard fastening, and a miniUSB connector for connecting a cable, covered with a plastic flip-up cap. At the top end there is only a standard switch off/change profiles button. The process of turning on the phone is accompanied by a short vibration (as in SonyEricsson devices).

On the back surface there is a built-in camera lens, above which you can see the manufacturer’s logo, and below it, on the battery compartment cover, the inscription “2 megapixel”, indicating the camera resolution.

To the right of the camera lens there is a polyphonic speaker; there is only one in the device, but it copes with its duties well; however, due to its location, the sound from a jeans pocket, for example, turns out to be muffled. Play in the battery compartment cover is practically eliminated, and the fastening is secure. Underneath it lies a BL-4C battery, which has far from the best performance. battery life, as well as a slot for microSD memory cards. They can be hot-swapped without turning off the phone.

Almost half of the front surface is occupied by the screen; its physical dimensions are 31 x 41 mm, diagonal 2" (51 mm) with a resolution of 240x320. The screen is capable of displaying up to 16 million colors and shades, and the picture is bright and clear, viewing angles are good. In terms of image quality The display is one of the best on the market, it significantly outperforms the screens of the Nokia E50, 6233, which have similar characteristics.

Above the screen is speaker, covered with a fine metal mesh.

In general, we can say about the design that it is designed entirely in a classic style; the majority of respondents did not remain indifferent; they spoke extremely positively about the device. The dimensions of 106.4 x 43.6 x 11.7 (13.1) mm can be called optimal, the quality of materials and workmanship is also pleasing, the Nokia 6300 makes a very pleasant impression. The thinness of the model is not excessive, due to which it fits perfectly in the hand.

Nokia 6300:: Review:: Series40v3 platform software

The Nokia 6300 model is built on the Series40 platform, third edition Feature Pack 2. This is the latest edition of the platform. Differences with previous versions quite insignificant, they are described mainly by some features of the implementation of the MP3 player interface, it has been completely redesigned, plus its background operation. The features will be discussed in more detail as the review progresses. It is worth mentioning that when describing many subsequent devices built on the S40v3 FP 2 platform, we will return to this material so as not to repeat the same information.

Nokia 6300:: Review:: Active standby

This point deserves special attention in view of the fact that this is one of the main features of the new version of Series40. The standby mode customizability is the highest to date and surpasses many of the company's smartphones. Literally everything that is possible can be configured. Firstly, you can configure 2 soft keys and 4 joystick movements. There is nothing special about this, perhaps except that now you can display an icon on the screen that reminds you which deviation is triggering what. It is very reminiscent of the implementation of a similar idea in Motorola phones.

Secondly, you can configure the active standby mode. I was very pleased with the settings of this mode. You can add a line for quick access to 5 applications (if you want more or less links, this can also be configured), and which applications the user chooses himself. Next, you can display information from 3 more applications. By default, these are audio applications (the MP3 player and radio show what exactly they are playing, clicking on them leads to the transition to the selected application), calendar and notes. The calendar displays all events and planned activities for the current day. You can navigate through the calendar without leaving the standby mode using the navigation key (left/right), and all the information from the calendar that is there with that date will also be displayed. The note itself is plain text that can be entered as a reminder that will always be on the screen in standby mode. A timer, general indicators, and “my presence” applications can also display information about their work on the screen in standby mode. The order of the output lines can also be changed, and the number of lines can be reduced. In a word, you can customize absolutely everything, from a completely blank screen to a super-informative screen in standby mode. Thirdly, the “Active” menu and font color changes have not gone away. The latter can be useful if you use your own picture as a background.

Nokia 6300:: Overview:: Main menu

Like other new models from the manufacturer, the Nokia 6300 has four types of main menu display: list, icons, icons and labels, and tabs. If with the “list” and “icons” everything is simple and clear, then the other 2 types of display are worthy of attention. Submenus are lists with slightly smaller icons, everything is logical and simple. The font size is adjustable only for 3 applications - "Messages", "Contacts" and "Internet". There is also a quick transition using digital navigation and voice control (without learning pronunciation, as in latest smartphones Nokia).

To top it off, it’s worth noting that menu items can be moved (submenu items cannot), depending on how you want. By combining the settings of the active standby mode and the menu, almost everything on the phone can be accessed in just a few clicks, because the navigation key deflections and the active standby mode can work together (in this case, 3 key deflections are available for launching applications, one is reserved for navigation through active standby mode).

Nokia 6300:: Review:: Messages

The messaging service includes work with sms, mms, email, audio messages and so-called “quick messages”. Almost nothing has changed dramatically in SMS. The display of the messages themselves when receiving and sending has changed slightly. You can still insert contact numbers and names, emoticons into messages, change the message type (from SMS to MMS, etc.). The T9 dictionary is configured for intelligent input.

The MMS service is quite standard, the appearance has been redrawn, but everything remains the same. Messages up to 300Kb in size are supported, there is automatic conversion of images if their size exceeds this same 300Kb. Audio messages are a type of MMS service; when you “write” it, the voice recorder automatically opens and all you have to do is turn it on and make a recording. When the voice recorder is turned off, an MMS message is automatically generated and the user only needs to select a recipient.

One of the main differences between the 6300 and other devices built on Feature Pack 2 from devices based on Series40v3 (6280, 6288, etc.) is the new E-mail client, the main feature of which is a settings wizard, similar to the Setting Wizard application, which is used in new Nokia smartphones. With this wizard you can easily configure Mailbox, settings for the most popular e-mail providers are available, and there is also a choice by region. Russia is not poorly represented at all, there are all the main free mail servers.

In the settings, you can choose to download only headers, maximum message size, type of secure login, and default encoding.

The built-in e-mail client supports POP3/IMAP4/SMTP/APOP protocols. There is support for attachments that are understood by the device itself. The main problem remains the same - in some cases, support for Russian encodings does not work correctly. Letters are understood both in KOI-8 and win-1251. However, if the letter does not contain an indication of its encoding in the header, then problems begin.

Another important feature is the ability to copy/paste text. This feature first appeared on devices with Feature Pack 1, for example, Nokia 6131, 6233. Access to this function is possible through the context menu, because there is no dedicated key for working with text (as, for example, in smartphones on the S60) here, which of course is not so and convenient, but still a big plus of the phone.

Nokia 6300:: Review:: Call service, contact book

The check showed that the phone book capacity is 1000 contacts (5 phone numbers and a full address field). At the same time, the memory is not dynamic; if you add only one number per name, the maximum number of contacts will still be 1000, which is enough for most users. This is the advantage of the model over the Nokia 6233, its predecessor. You can assign up to five numbers of five different types to a contact (general, cell, home, video, work, fax), address (street, city, region, postal code, country), PTT address, email address, presence service ID, note, image and video. I was very pleased with the ability to assign a ringtone to each subscriber - not to a group, but to individual subscribers.

The phone book has 3 ways to display contacts - "name list", "Name and number" and "Name and picture". The size of the call picture is quite large, almost filling the entire screen.

In addition, there is a VideoID function - if a subscriber is assigned a video in the contact book, then during a call it will be played on the screen, and taking into account the fact that the phone both records and plays video very well, we can say that this is a very interesting function. If both a picture and a video are installed, then priority goes to the video.

The user can create his own groups (up to 25), there are no preset groups. Collisions are allowed, that is, the same contact can be in different groups. If a user is assigned a ringtone that is different from the one assigned to the group, then the custom ringtone will work, this is quite logical. Groups are displayed directly in the contact list, which is also difficult to call illogical. Speed dialing is standard, with keys 2 through 9 available.

Nokia 6300:: Review:: An interesting innovation is that the call list now displays all numbers - received, unanswered, dialed, unlike almost all other devices from the manufacturer. Each number has a corresponding icon.

Multimedia: MP3 player, radio

The MP3 player interface has changed significantly compared to devices based on Series40v3, for example, 6233, 6280. The player and radio, as already mentioned, work in the background, the player interface is identical to Nokia 5300/5200.

The player interface is made intuitive, you can judge the ease of control from the screenshots below. We can definitely say that this presentation is a big step forward compared to other devices from the manufacturer, excluding the N91. custom settings. There is an extended stereo sound mode, which for some reason is in the Multimedia menu item. Its inclusion does not radically affect the sound quality; it seems that this functionality is present “for show”.

Various options are available, such as dividing by artist, album, genre, etc., repeating songs and playing separately. In terms of sound quality, the 6300 repeats the models 5300 and 7390, which automatically turns it into a very good musical solution. The included HS-47 headset with a 2.5 mm jack is quite good in quality, but if you connect good headphones using, for example, a 2.5 mm-3.5 mm adapter, you can achieve excellent sound quality, at the level of the best music phones . It’s safe to say that this device, which is not at all aimed at a music audience, turned out to be very successful in this regard, both in terms of sound quality and in terms of the music player interface. In MP3 playback mode, the Nokia 6300 lasts an average of 9 hours, this is a standard result today, if you do not take into account highly specialized models designed for playing music.

Nothing special can be said about the radio, memory for 20 radio stations, support for visual service (not supported in Russia). To work, you need to connect a headset that acts as an antenna. As already noted, both the radio and the player can display information about their work on the screen in standby mode, and work in background.

Nokia 6300:: Review:: Gallery

The gallery is essentially file manager, you can view the contents of your phone memory and memory card. And here there are 3 types of displaying the contents of folders, you can customize them to your taste and color. Working with a memory card is carried out in the same way as with other folders, only it has a different icon. It is possible to show a slide show of the contents of a specific folder, which is often useful if you show someone a lot of photos or videos. Eat full screen mode viewing both photos and videos (in portrait screen orientation).

Nokia 6300:: Review:: Organizer

The organizer consists of a set of applications such as Calendar, To Do, Notes, Timer, Stopwatch. The calendar supports display by month and week, and in the latter case there is a breakdown of the day by hour. 5 types of events (meeting, call, birthday, note, reminder), flexible settings for repeating events, automatic deletion of old events (customizable).

The to-do list is a very familiar application for such tasks; there are priorities and deadlines for completing tasks. With notes everything is simpler, you can enter arbitrary text, its length is limited to 3000 characters. The alarm clock can be set to go off once or by day of the week. The alarm can be set to either any arbitrary melody or to turn on the radio (the headset must be connected).

Nokia 6300:: Review:: Communications

Nokia 6300 has almost all types of connections with PCs and other devices that are currently available. Of course, there is no wi-fi here, but its presence in phones is not yet entirely justified; in current realities, this is a smartphone solution. So, Bluetooth complies with the 2.0 + EDR specification and supports the following profiles: OBEX File Transfer, Dial-up, OBEX Object Push, Hands-free, Headset, SIM Access. The data transfer speed over the Bluetooth channel was on average 160 Kbps, a test file of 5 MB in size was transferred in 48 seconds, this is a good indicator.

It is worth mentioning support for the Bluetooth A2DP profile; this is a rarity for the Finnish manufacturer now, and the 6300 is one of the few models from the company that has this profile.

The cable connection is interesting because, like the latest S60 devices, it allows the user to choose how to use the phone - a disk drive (no drivers required), a direct connection to a printer, and the usual phone connection mode (PC Suite, modem). When using models as a disk drive, they do not go to an offline profile, as Nokia smartphones do.

The device supports both regular packet data transfer (GPRS class 10) and its improved version - EDGE (class 10). A nice feature was the presence of an indicator showing the type of connection that is currently in use (in the screenshots there are icons “G” and “E” for GPRS and EDGE, respectively).

Nokia 6300:: Review:: Applications, memory

Nokia 6300 boasts a rather original toy, the Music Guess game - “Guess the melody”. A list of songs is generated on the phone, and you have to guess what melody is playing now. The commercial sample of the device may contain other games and applications. You can install any Flash Lite applications on your phone; you just need to copy them to your phone.

In fact, you don’t need to install applications; you just need to transfer the jar file to your phone via bluetooth, infrared, cable, or simply copy it to a memory card. Then you can move these files from the phone memory to the memory card or vice versa. After this, you can simply open the gallery and launch Java applications without any physical movements, this is convenient.

The big drawback of most Nokia phones is the inability to minimize a Java application without closing it, while this functionality is implemented in the 6300 - the player and radio applications can run in the background, while you can also launch a Java application.

There are no slowdowns when executing Java applications, performance is comparable to Nokia 6233, 5300; the table below shows the comparative results of these devices.

Nokia 6300:: Review:: Camera

The quality of the camera is the same as what we have seen in many models of the manufacturer, 6233, 6288, etc. Pictures on the phone screen look excellent due to the quality of the screen itself, but on the computer screen you can see that everything is not so good, the quality is average. The camera has 6 working resolutions (1600x1200; 1280x960; 800x600; 640x480; 320x240; 160x120). The entire camera interface is designed in portrait orientation. There is no dedicated key to launch the camera, the volume buttons are used to control the digital zoom, and turning the navigation key right/left allows you to switch between photo and video shooting.

The camera doesn't have as many settings as it could have, there is a quality setting (JPEG compression), and a self-timer. Among the innovations, we can note the option to select white balance, there are also 5 effects - sepia, negative, overexposure, shades of gray, false colors. Present night mode and burst mode, it is possible to turn off the sound of the camera and select a folder for storing the resulting photo and video materials. The speed of capturing the image is good, almost as soon as the shutter sound is played, the photo is taken, although then you will have to wait about 2 seconds to return to the camera menu.

The video is recorded in a maximum resolution of 176x144; the video quality and video duration can be adjusted (unlimited by default). The quality of the resulting videos is poor, it is clear that this functionality is additional and does not have much meaning in this device, the videos are unsuitable for viewing on a PC, and on the phone screen it is not so bad. When shooting video, it is possible to use effects. Using the example of video quality, we can judge the segmentation of devices within the product portfolio. Nokia 6233, which has similar functionality, allows you to record videos in VGA resolution, which is the maximum today. In the 6300 model, the video quality was artificially limited; perhaps, thanks to this parameter, some of the audience will pay attention to the 6233 model.

Nokia 6300:: Review:: Impressions, conclusions

The device has no problems with reception quality; everything is at the level of other models from the manufacturer. The conversational speaker is loud enough to hear the interlocutor in almost any conditions, but the volume of the polyphonic speaker is not always enough, due to its location.

Nokia 6300 is expected on the market in February, at a price of approximately $350-400 at the beginning of sales, for some time its price will remain at an acceptable level of $300.

It often happens that solutions that do not have any outstanding functionality become extremely successful; they simply have a certain standard set of characteristics for their time, a discreet design and a low price. All this fully applies to the Nokia 6300, which does not offer anything revolutionary, but is a very high-quality mid-range product. Summing it all up, and also taking into account the fact that the 6300 is actually the manufacturer’s first thin model, the device will be in consistently high demand.
