Battery life on Huawei m3 10. review of almost the tablet of my dreams

The first tablet in the MediaPad line was introduced in 2011. Since then, the company has managed to expand the series with dozens of different models, changing the design every year, and also, naturally, increasing functionality and performance. Relatively recently, the editors visited a model with the index , and this time we reviewed the MediaPad with the serial number M3 Lite 10, which was and is already available in stores.

Equipment and first impressions

Our office received only a tablet and a charger (without a box). The package itself also contains a “clip” and documentation. No other goodies are included in the price. But a rather necessary accessory – a case – is still worth getting. Firstly, this will help you use the device comfortably, because most cases serve as a stand. Secondly, this will be extra protection during transportation, which will obviously come in handy sooner or later.

The setup of this particular MediaPad was nothing remarkable; there is nothing new in the process itself. The only thing I immediately had to contend with was the fingerprint scanner, which, although reminiscent of the Home button, is not one. That is, it is not even pressed (like the Home “button” in the iPhone 7/8). Later, a function was found that configures all this, but initially it was turned off. And the finger intuitively reaches for the scanner-button when you need to return to the desktop, and it would be nice if the corresponding function was immediately active.

Design and usability

MediaPad tablets have changed their design quite noticeably. Some of them strongly resembled big smartphone. But the current version of the appearance already clearly hints at landscape orientation when in use, as evidenced by the placement of the logo, fingerprint scanner and front camera. The tablet itself cannot be called large (although in the emerging era of “thin frames” it is still a bit large), and in comparison with most existing proposals, the dimensions are standard: 241.3 × 171.5 × 7.1 mm, weight – 310 grams.

The front side of the tablet, of course, is completely covered with glass. The frame on the sides is aluminum. But all back panel made of plastic. The sample we received has a lot of small scratches on its plastic side (everything else is like new). For those who would like to preserve the original appearance of the tablet, this is another reason to buy a case. The case itself can be in three color options - gray with a black frame, white or gold with a light frame.

The set of buttons and connectors on the tablet is standard - there are power and volume buttons (right), microUSB (left) and a headphone jack (upper right corner). At the top and bottom of the frame there are also a pair of speakers and noticeable joints for antennas. Separately, it is worth noting the tray for SIM cards and memory cards. There is nothing special about it, but a little lower from it there is a hole for the microphone, which can be confused with the hole for opening the tray, which can damage the microphone itself. We have already seen something similar, for example, on .

On the front side, under the display, there is the already mentioned fingerprint scanner. It works quickly and quite accurately. Above the display there is a charging indicator and a front camera. At the back, of course, is the main camera window (without flash).

Overall, the tablet is quite easy to use. You can get used to any little details in the ergonomics of the gadget (sometimes I accidentally pressed the power button, and when the charger is connected, it’s not very convenient to hold the device on the left side, because the cable gets in the way). In all other respects, this is still the same tablet that we are all already accustomed to, the use of which is no different from other such tablets. And, in my opinion, it looks very good, even if the design doesn’t really stand out in anything loud.

Display

As the name suggests, the Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite 10 has a fairly large display – 10.1 inches. The screen resolution is 1920×1200 pixels, and the pixel density is 224 ppi. It's certainly not a flagship 2K panel, but it's still good for everyday use. At the moment this is standard definition for good tablets, no more, no less.

The main thing is that the picture did not disappoint me personally. Initially, it seemed (subjectively) a little cold, but the Eye Comfort mode, which slightly shifts the picture into warmer shades, corrected this situation. True, in the display settings there is a separate item responsible for temperature. I would add a little more saturation, but there are no such adjustments anymore. But at the same time, the IPS matrix shows quite nice picture, I enjoyed both watching movies and viewing photos on social networks on this display. Naturally, everything else also did not cause any complaints.

The tablet also has automatic brightness adjustment, which adapts to the situation quite comfortably and unnoticed by the user. At a higher angle, you can notice that the colors darken a little, but during use it’s unlikely that anyone will look at the tablet exactly like that. No problems were noticed in the operation of the sensor either. This MediaPad did everything right with its display.

Sound

A separate point that the company boasts about is sound. And it was not entirely by chance that the Harman/Kardon logo appeared here. And as already mentioned, the tablet has four speakers. They're loud. At maximum, of course, they can “choke” a little, but everything will depend on the specific composition. In general, for a tablet, the sound is great. The only let down is the placement of the lower speakers, which can close in some situations, but this is not such a fundamental point that greatly spoils the impression.

If the user has good headphones and he often connects them to the tablet, then with this MediaPad you don’t have to worry about it. All my personal headphones perfectly reproduced the songs I was used to. This is another plus to the media capabilities of the device, which is designed specifically for these tasks. And it’s not for nothing that the company focuses on sound, because the speakers did not disappoint, and everything was great with the rather sensitive headphones.

Hardware platform and software

An eight-core processor is spinning under the hood of the tablet. Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 (MSM8940) with Adreno 505 video. Memory configurations start from 3/16 GB, and there is also an intermediate option of 3/32 and a maximum of 4/64. It is better to skip the younger version, because such a storage capacity will not be enough even for undemanding users, even though there is also a slot for MicroSD cards. The tablet is also capable of working in LTE networks and supports Wi-Fi standard AC.

This tablet is far from the top in the synthetic test tables, but its performance is sufficient for ordinary tasks. The Internet and social networks will work quickly, and there will be no problems playing videos or other media. For a device whose name includes the word “media”, this is probably the most important thing. And in this regard it works well.

The installed Android 7.0 OS is supplemented with the EMUI 5.1 shell. The system has enough diverse settings and capabilities to avoid resorting to third-party software, although initially this may not seem enough. Just dig into the parameters and you will find useful items there. True, out of the box the tablet has a couple of extra applications (Yandex and Sberbank, for example), but nothing prevents you from removing them. I personally was satisfied with the work of all this. Minor troubles, of course, occur, but these are random errors, not constant problems.

Autonomy

A 6660 mAh battery is also hidden inside the case. The PCMark battery life test showed a result of more than 8.5 hours. In fact, I got 6.5-8 hours of screen operation. As usual, I didn’t run much games or anything equally demanding, but rather used the Internet, media and other simple applications.

The included charging unit will recharge the battery for about four hours, which is quite a long time. Mentions of fast charging, unfortunately no. Therefore, it is worth calculating the charging time before long trips.

Cameras

Taking photographs from tablets is not getting any more convenient, but cameras are getting better. Not enough to compete with these even in mid-budget smartphones (if we are not talking about flagship tablets). Our tablet has two cameras, both with 8 MP resolution and no flash.

In the “viewfinder” the picture looks better than it turns out in the end. These cameras need as much light as possible. Taking pictures outdoors with a tablet is inconvenient, and in home lighting the pictures will be noisy and not quite match natural colors. But for scanning documents, for example, it will do. The story is the same with the front camera, which is not very suitable for photographs, but is quite suitable for video calling.

Display quality. Sound quality. Autonomy. Connection quality. Build quality.

Minuses

The diagonal is not optimal. Weight. Sound in headphones.

Review

I bought it before the New Year as a temporary replacement for a laptop for surfing the web and occasionally watching movies. I chose it solely based on the filling and functionality without reference to the brand. Before this I used an iPad mini.

The device is not bad, well built, well optimized for working with office applications. The autonomy is amazing - with three-hour work every night, I charge it once every five days.

Not bad for watching HD movies, but you need to choose the original file quality and screen aspect ratio. With small errors in proportions, the picture easily becomes elongated. The built-in video player is powerless; I didn’t install third-party ones. But the sound! Not all TVs sound like that! Four speakers on both sides provide a good, detailed, voluminous (for this size of drivers) and loud audio background. High-quality video files are a pleasure to watch.

The display is good, rich, color rendering is quite natural, but the glass often interferes with glare in rooms.

Now about the shortcomings. The screen diagonal does not work optimally with some sites, collecting content in a heap or, conversely, not showing half of the resource. When typing in opening windows, the keyboard often covers more than half of the source code, forcing you to change the display orientation.

There is a bug with the RAM - I type a lot of text in the window, at some point the typing is interrupted and the tablet refreshes the page, naturally losing the text. It happens rarely, but I’m used to maintaining what I’ve gained.

Video reviews

Huawei continues to expand its line available tablets. This time the manufacturer has released a simplified version of its flagship MediaPad M3 models with an 8- and 10-inch screen. We had a tablet with an 8-inch screen at our disposal. Unlike its more expensive counterparts, the new product received a screen with a lower resolution, less RAM, and a less productive chip. At the same time, multimedia functions such as cameras, wireless interface capabilities, and a fingerprint scanner were kept at the flagship level.

The class of tablets with an 8-inch screen has expanded new model from Huawei. The device is called MediaPad M3 Lite 8.0. Among the characteristics of the gadget, it is worth noting the plastic case, small thickness of 7.5 mm, light weight - 310 grams, FullHD screen. In addition, the new product received a separate audio chip and an amplifier for two stereo speakers, the design of which uses proprietary technologies from Harman, one of the market leaders. acoustic systems and sound. I will also note a fingerprint scanner, main and front cameras of 8 megapixels each, 3 GB of RAM, 4G support.

Delivery package and first impressions

id="sub2">

The tablet comes in a thick cardboard box. At the top there is an inscription with the name of the model.

In addition to the device itself, the package contains a microUSB cable for synchronization and charging, an electrical adapter, a master key for the SIM card tray, instructions and a warranty card.

As for the tablet itself, it is compact and very thin. I believe that models with an 8-inch screen are the most convenient to use. They are great to read text information, websites, watch movies comfortably. At the same time, the dimensions and weight are not as large as those of devices with a screen of 10 inches or more. The dimensions of Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite are 213.3 x 123.3 x 7.5 mm, weight 310 grams.

The tablet can be grasped with one hand. Of course, you will have to control it with both hands. In general, I did not notice any shortcomings. You can choose a case to protect your tablet. The choice here is more than large.

Design and appearance

id="sub3">

The design of Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite has many similarities with appearance Honor line smartphones. The same finishing materials are used here. The tablet is thin and compact. The body shape is rectangular, aspect ratio is 16:9, the corners are sloping, the edges taper on the sides. An aluminum frame runs along the sides of the tablet, which strengthens the structure and protects it from falls and mechanical damage. There are several plastic inserts along the contour. Antennas for receiving and transmitting data from cellular networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/GLONASS are located here.

The front panel is covered with glass. There is an oleophobic coating, it is quite effective. The finger glides across the display easily, and any fingerprints that appear are erased quickly.

The back of the case is made of plastic.

The 8-inch MediaPad M3 tablet is available in two colors - silver and bronze (gold). Both colors look very interesting.

Above the screen you can see front camera 8 megapixels, light and position sensors are also located here. On the right there is a dot LED that starts blinking when messages arrive, Email and so on.

On the right side you can see the power/lock button and the volume key. The slot for a microSIM-type SIM card, as well as a slot for a microSD memory card, is located below.

On the bottom edge of the tablet there is a microUSB port, as well as a microphone for making calls. The 3.5 mm jack for connecting headphones is located on the top edge.

I will also note two stereo speakers, which are located below and above.

On the back there is a camera without a flash, as well as the “HUAWEI” logo and the inscription “harman/kardon”.

In general, the MediaPad M3 Lite looks very stylish and interesting. There are no questions about the assembly, it is of high quality and reliable.

Stereo speakers and sound

id="sub4">

The MediaPad M3 Lite tablet received an audio system consisting of two stereo speakers. They are located on the upper and lower ends. Huawei states that Harman/Kardon specialists worked to improve the audio system in this model, and a separate AK4396 DAC manufactured by Asahi Kasei Microdevises is responsible for sound reproduction. Dynamic range is 125 dB, distortion is 106 dB.

There is a Smart Power Amplifier and SWS 2.0 surround sound function (best used without a headset).

In portrait orientation of the device, the bottom speaker acts as a subwoofer, and the top one serves to reproduce high frequencies. In landscape orientation, both speakers sound the same, but the stereo is more expanded.

The main advantage of stereo speakers is high volume. The speakers produce a wide range of mid-range frequencies without whistling, wheezing or other delights. The volume of sound does not excite the imagination, but it is nobly felt both in music and when watching films. Don't expect a tablet to replace a boombox and amaze its owner with deep bass, because... mobile gadgets such miracles do not happen. However, the device plays many times better than other models even in a higher price category.

Screen. Graphics capabilities

id="sub5">

Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite is equipped with an 8-inch screen made using IPS technology without an air gap. The capacitive sensor supports up to 10 simultaneous touches. Resolution - 1920×1200 (283 ppi). Thanks to the aspect ratio, the display is perfect for watching movies, TV series and other videos.

The screen is bright, with vibrant colors. Viewing angles are maximum without purple and yellow tints. Automatic system Brightness control, which can also be enabled in options, worked reliably. But manual control is not the best in practice - the brightness levels are too large.

The tablet has a ClariVu chip, which is responsible for image transmission. There is also “Eye care mode” technology, when the screen turns into warm colors to reduce eye strain.

The picture on the display looks realistic, with high contrast. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable value. The mode with automatic brightness adjustment works adequately. There are no questions here.

If we talk about the sensitivity of the screen, it responds quickly to touches and recognizes gestures without problems.

Summing up the results of working with the Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite screen, I can say that it is very decent. There are no obvious shortcomings here.

Hardware platform: processor, memory, performance

id="sub6">

MediaPad M3 Lite is equipped with a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 chip with an octa-core processor: 4 Cortex A53 cores with clock frequency up to 1.4 GHz + 4 Cortex A53 cores with a maximum frequency of 1.1 GHz. Graphics subsystem (GPU) - Adreno 505 450 MHz. Random access memory here 3 GB. Tablets with 16 and 32 GB flash memory are available for sale. You can expand the built-in memory using microSD cards. The device has a corresponding slot for this.

If we talk about the operation of the interface, then in most work scenarios I did not notice any glitches or slowdowns. The picture and transitions are smooth, launching applications is fast. Browser, video - here sometimes there are slowdowns and slowness. All this is related to the speed of the hardware used.

In 3DMark, the tablet scored about 9,900 and 600 points in the Ice Storm Unlimited and Fire Strike scenarios, in AnTuTu 5 and 6 - 39,000 and 46,000 points. The CPU cores are also not very encouraging. In the Geekbench 3 and 4 tests, the MediaPad M3 Lite could not even score 700 points in single-threaded performance; in the multi-threaded test, we get 3,200 and 2,900 points. The GFXBench result in the Manhattan Offscreen and T-Rex Offscreen runs was only about 8 and 17 fps, so it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to play comfortably on the MediaPad M3 Lite.

Communication capabilities

id="sub7">

The tablet supports everything modern networks communications: 2G/3G and 4G on Russian frequencies. The quality of signal reception is not satisfactory; the device confidently maintains communication indoors and does not lose the signal in areas of poor reception.

The device supports telephone calls via mobile network. To do this, it is more convenient to connect a headset and talk through it.

MediaPad M3 Lite can work with all modern wireless networks. Among them dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, you can organize a wireless access point via Wi-Fi channels or Bluetooth. All modules work quickly and without failures.

Among the additional communication tools, it is worth noting GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou (standard cartography is built into the smartphone Google Maps). The navigation error radius during testing was about 10 meters, which is very little. The gadget copes well with the role of a navigator.

A fingerprint scanner is built into the central button below the screen. During my experiments, it recognized the fingerprint very well. The sensor can be used instead on-screen buttons Android, but not as convenient as we would like. IN third party applications The sensor is not supported, is it possible to hide/display the notification curtain and scroll through pictures in the gallery.

Duration of work

id="sub8">

The tablet has a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 7800 mAh. The tablet's battery life is good, but not outstanding. The battery capacity is average, and as a result, the results are average. In continuous reading mode, the device worked for 14.5 hours, in video viewing mode - about 7 hours. This is already a good result, although not a record one.

With an average usage scenario (the Internet is turned on, browsing the Internet 3 hours a day, watching a movie for 2 hours a day, playing games for up to 30 minutes a day), the tablet worked for two days. These indicators are typical for many mid-level devices.

User Interface and Operating System

id="sub9">

MediaPad M3 Lite runs the original operating system Android systems 7.0 with installed branded shell Huawei - EMUI 5.1.

All programs are displayed in one list on the main and adjacent screens.

In the settings of the MediaPad M3 Lite there is an option for eye protection (it is turned on only during reading - the amount of blue color decreases, that is, the picture becomes warmer).

Among preinstalled programs worth noting is the office from Microsoft, clients social networks, file manager, FM radio.

Any other programs on the tablet can be installed from the Google Play store.

Camera. Photo and video capabilities

id="sub10">

Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite is equipped with two cameras. Main - 8 megapixels, f/2.0, with autofocus. There is no flash. The camera is typical average. On the street at good lighting it takes high-quality pictures with a minimum of noise. But in difficult lighting, in rooms with difficult light, the photos turn out to be unrealistic.

The main camera of the smartphone can record video with sound. maximum resolution FullHD. The quality of the video can be rated as “C”. In good lighting, the videos look bright, without changes in light. Video looks a little blurry in low lighting conditions

I will also mention the front camera for selfies. It's 8 megapixels. The pictures come out very high quality.

The design of the camera app is similar to other Huawei products. Flicking to the right reveals available modes such as Panorama, HDR or Time Lapse. Swiping left provides access to options. The main interface looks neat, although some icons are too small for the large display.

Results

id="sub11">

The main conclusion that can be drawn based on the results of two weeks of testing is that the Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite 8.0 tablet is a kind of compromise between functionality and price. The manufacturer tried to offer an inexpensive tablet with maximum functions. And for the most part, he succeeded. Firstly, I was pleased with the high-quality 8-inch screen. The picture quality here is not bad, although it is inferior to the same MediaPad M3 8.0 in terms of resolution. Secondly, the device is compact and looks very impressive. Thirdly, the tablet produces high-quality and surround sound stereo sound. This is a definite plus for fans of watching movies and video clips. Fourthly, the presence of LTE support. This means that the tablet can be used outside of Wi-Fi.

The MediaPad M3 Lite 8.0 also has some disadvantages. Firstly, this is very average hardware in terms of performance. For basic tasks it will, of course, be sufficient. But when loading heavy promotional sites on the Internet, games with serious graphics, the interface will slow down. Also worth noting are the cameras. Both the main one and the front one - both take average quality pictures in good lighting. In difficult conditions, photos and videos are excellent. In addition, the tablet cannot boast of maximum autonomy.

To sum it up, the price of 17,000 rubles for the 16 GB version looks a little higher than one would expect. MediaPad M3 Lite 8.0 has a lot of competitors among the Chinese in the form of devices from Xiaomi, Lenovo, etc.
