Sony Xperia e. Sony Xperia E smartphone: characteristics, reviews

The Xperia E4 is a true work of art from Sony. This reliable and durable smartphone inspires confidence just by its appearance. The rounded shape and textured surface not only make it easy to handle, but also highlight your taste.

With friends, you can relive shared memories on a large 5-inch Xperia screen E4. With Sony's advanced display and audio technology, images are clear from any angle and sound is always crystal clear. Therefore, laugh to your heart’s content and don’t be afraid of not hearing something.

If the party drags on and promises to last all night, the last thing you want is for your smartphone to run out of charge. The Xperia E4's battery lasts two days on a single charge*, so you can keep talking and taking photos when other phones have given up and gone on the run. And when the sun rises, check who has more charge left - we doubt that anyone will be able to compete with your smartphone in this regard.

Are you going to a party but have almost no battery left? Turn on STAMINA mode and your smartphone will work for many more hours.

Xperia E4 is your express ticket to the world of entertainment. Xperia app Transfer will allow you to transfer all important information on new smartphone in a matter of minutes.

Taking professional photos is actually easy: you just shoot, and your smartphone will do the rest. Shooting Condition Sensing automatically adjusts settings to ensure your photos always come out well.

What could be better than the loud and clear sound of your favorite composition? Or when group shots turn out one more beautiful than the other? You will find all this in Xperia smartphone E4, which combines advanced audio technology with a proprietary Sony camera. And thanks to the many additional functions you won't be bored for a second.

Want your phone to last four times longer in standby mode? Just turn on extended standby mode. It recognizes when you're not using the display and automatically turns off features and apps, but you can still take calls and text messages, view notifications of your choice from apps, and the alarm will ring exactly when you need it. To resume normal work, just press the power button.

Are you running out of charge and still have a lot of things to do? Thanks to the extended usage mode, your phone will last 14% longer.

Xperia E4 combines a powerful 5-megapixel camera with Sony's innovative Auto Sensing feature and HDR mode for photos. The result is a smartphone that takes high-quality and bright photos both day and night, and thanks to the 2-megapixel front camera selfies will turn out just as good.

The bright lights of a city at night, a close-up of a beautiful flower... Capture every scene in all its beauty: Auto Sensing detects up to 52 scenarios and automatically adjusts settings to ensure you take great photos, every time, everywhere.

HDR technology (or high dynamic range technology) is used to create clear photos even in bright backlit conditions. Your Android smartphone's HDR camera takes multiple shots of the same image at different exposures and then overlays them to create the best quality photo.

Now many manufacturers are trying to enter the budget segment with compact models that support dual SIM cards, it is not surprising that Sony has a similar smartphone. The positioning of the device is quite simple - this is a smartphone for those who are looking for an affordable device with support for two SIM cards, made in Sony's proprietary design.

Appearance, design, control elements, assembly

The smartphone looks great, it is immediately recognizable as a Sony device: a silver frame, slightly rounded edges, a separate button for the camera and a metal power button already familiar from other Sony smartphones.

Most of the front side of the device is occupied by a 3.5’’ screen, above which there is a mesh conversational dynamics, and below it is a microphone hole and three touch buttons: "Back", "Home" and "Menu". In addition, there is an LED at the bottom that blinks when notifications appear.

On the right you can see the volume rocker, the power button and a separate key for quick launch cameras. Sony remain true to their principles and even in budget models they do not abandon this button (which, in my opinion, is a plus).

They decided to install the microUSB connector on the left side; Sony is not the first to install this connector on the side; in my opinion, this is not very convenient.

On top there is only a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The back is made of matte porous plastic, pleasant to the touch. Similar material is used in Sony Xperia ZL, a smaller copy of which the Xperia E Dual is similar to. On the back there is a peephole for the main camera and a mesh for the main speaker. The latter has good sound and a large volume reserve; it is perfectly audible even in a noisy room.

To remove the cover, simply press it lightly with your thumbs and slide it up. Hidden underneath are slots for two SIM cards and a card slot. microSD memory.

There are no complaints about the assembly, the smartphone is perfectly assembled, nothing creaks, does not play, does not wobble.

Dimensions

In our time of huge five-inch “shovels”, the Xperia E Dual seems almost like a baby, it’s even surprising that a couple of years ago such dimensions were the norm. The smartphone fits perfectly in your hand, you can operate it with one hand without any problems. In addition to its small size, the Xperia E Dual also boasts a low weight; it feels very light in the hand.

  • Sony Xperia E Dual- 113.5x61.8x11 mm, weight 115 g
  • LG Optimus L3 II- 102.9x61.3x11.9 mm, weight 110 g
  • Samsung Galaxy ACE DUOS- 112.8x61.5x11.5 mm, weight 122 g

Screen

Display diagonal - 3.5'', resolution - 480x320 pixels, matrix type - TN, screen covering material - protective plastic. Two-finger multi-touch is supported. There is no automatic brightness adjustment.

The screen is the weak point of this smartphone: with such a low resolution, pixelation is visible to the naked eye, and the TN matrix provides very mediocre viewing angles. The worst behavior of the screen is if the top part is tilted slightly forward - the picture becomes noticeably darker and the colors are inverted.

In the sun, the display goes completely blind, making it almost impossible to read anything.

There is no oleophobic coating, so it is inconvenient to move your finger across the screen and it gets stuck.

To be honest, I have already forgotten the last time I dealt with such a low-quality screen. Nowadays, most B-brands try not to release devices with resolutions lower than WVGA, however large companies like Sony, LG, Samsung are in no hurry to support this trend, as a result we see a scattering of public sector phones with such “pixel” screens.

Operating system and add-ons from Sony

The smartphone runs Android 4.0.4 OS, on top of which is installed branded shell from Sony. About Android features 4.0.4 you can read using the links below.

I will focus on the features of proprietary programs from Sony.

Dialer and Address Book. The dialer now has Russian letters and is supported by SmartDial. IN address book changed the display of contact information.

Keyboard. Sony's proprietary keyboard supports stroke input and also has its own dictionary. Despite the small diagonal of the Xperia E Dual, the keyboard is comfortable to use, and erroneous presses are minimal. When entering with strokes, most words are recognized correctly.

Browser. It hasn't changed much, you could even say that Sony just changed its icon.

Music player. Branded player from Sony. Knows how to “pull” information about the performer from the network. While playing, you can switch tracks from the lock screen. There is no support for playback by folders.

It’s nice that even the budget model is not deprived of proprietary add-ons and programs from Sony.

Performance

The smartphone has a single-core Qualcomm MSM7227A processor operating at 1 GHz, volume random access memory- 512 MB capacity internal storage- 4 GB (the user has 2 GB available to store his files), memory cards up to 32 GB are supported.

90% of the time the device works quite quickly: without lags, without slowdowns, but sometimes some incomprehensible delays begin: either flipping through tables slows down, or scrolling, or something else, let me assume that this is due to a lack of RAM.

As for games, you can only play simple “time killers” like Fruit Ninja or Cut The Rope. "Heavy" games like NFS Most Wanted They simply won’t run on a smartphone.

Autonomous operation

The smartphone has a removable lithium ion battery capacity 1500 mAh. With everyday use (20 minutes of calls, about an hour of mobile Internet + Twitter and email, and two hours of music), the smartphone ran out of charge towards the evening. I didn't test the time battery life in video and reading mode, since it is inconvenient to either read or watch movies at such a diagonal.

Working with two SIM cards

The Xperia E Dual perfectly implements the operation of two SIM cards, the settings are clear and convenient. I especially liked the ability to quickly change the active SIM card, for example, in one place good internet MegaFon, in another - MTS, I just switch to a SIM card with better reception and can use both 2G and 3G without any problems.

Camera

The smartphone has a 3.2 MP camera without autofocus. The camera is very simple, and you shouldn't expect much from it. Its only plus is a separate button for taking pictures, otherwise the photos turn out very bad, you can only take pictures of text for notes.

The maximum resolution for video is 640x480 pixels.

Conclusion

There are significant complaints about the quality of speech transmission: for example, I heard subscribers with a strong echo, and they complained about the low volume of my voice.

The average retail price of a smartphone is 6,500 rubles in large networks and about 5,200 rubles in online stores. To be honest, the Xperia E Dual left only negative impressions on me: a cheap TN matrix, low resolution and strange problems with voice communication. And all this at a price of 6,500 rubles! For this money you can take good smartphone with support for two SIM cards from a B-brand, for example, Fly IQ442 or Highscreen Strike.

Of course, the E Dual is aimed at fans of the Sony brand (here is the signature Sony style and nice case materials), but even to them I cannot recommend it.

To summarize: if you want inexpensive smartphone with support for two SIM cards, look towards B-brands, if you really want Sony, then pay 2-3 thousand extra and take Xperia J or Xperia L. And if you want Sony, and with two SIM cards, then It makes sense to wait for new announcements; I’m sure we’ll see better “dual-SIM” games from Sony.

Xperia E and Xperia E dual, which differ only in that the second model will support two SIM cards. Otherwise, the smartphones have similar characteristics, so in the review we will mainly consider the Xperia E, making adjustments if there are any differences between the models.

Sony Xperia E has an arc-shape, that is, the back wall of the case has a peculiar bend. On the front surface of the device there is a screen, under which you can see three touch control buttons with white backlight and a microphone hole, above it there is a Sony logo and a speaker. On one side there are on/off buttons and quick start camera, as well as a volume rocker, and on the other side there is a microUSB port. On the top edge you can see a 3.5 mm headphone jack. On the back of the case there is a camera, speaker, microphone, which serves to suppress noise and create a stereo effect, and the Xperia logo.

The body is made of soft-touch plastic, which is very pleasant to the touch. The smartphone fits very comfortably and securely in your hand.

The dimensions of the device are 113.5x61.8x11 mm, and the weight is 115.7 g.

The Xperia E will be sold in black, white and pink, while the Sony Xperia E dual will be available in black and gold.

Performance and Software

Sony Xperia E is based on a 1-core Qualcomm processor Snapdragon S1 MSM7227A ARM Cortex-A5 with clock frequency 1 GHz, Adreno 200 graphics accelerator and 512 MB of RAM. The device copes with most everyday tasks, but it has problems with modern games, which are more resource-demanding. Strictly speaking, you shouldn't expect very much from a budget model.

The permanent memory in the gadget is 4 GB, but it can be increased using cards. The device operates under operating control Android systems 4.1 Jelly Bean. There is a slight difference between the two smartphones: the Sony Xperia E dual will initially run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and then receive an update to version 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The software in the smartphone includes: a browser, mail client, programs for integration with, Walkman audio player, video player and other applications and games. The gadget is suitable for music lovers, as it has good sound and excellent software for music lovers.

The device supports Wi-Fi work, Bluetooth 2.1, FM radio and 3G networks.

Screen

The Sony Xperia E has a 3.5-inch TFT display with a resolution of 480x320 pixels, color rendering of 262 thousand shades and support for 2-point multi-touch. Pixel density per square inch is 165 ppi. The image quality is quite good for a budget smartphone: the colors are quite bright and natural. Viewing angles are small and fading in sunlight is high, but this is the problem with most conventional TFT displays.

Camera

Sony Xperia E is equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, geotagging and digital Zoom 4x. It allows you to take pictures with maximum resolution 2048x1536 pixels and record video in VGA format (640x480 pixels).

The smartphone does not have a front camera.

Battery

The gadget has at its disposal a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1500 mAh. The battery, according to the manufacturer, allows you to work autonomously up to 6.2 hours in talk mode (GSM) or up to 6.3 via the UMTS network, up to 530 hours in standby mode, up to 33 hours in music listening mode and up to 8 hours when watching video.

Price

Sony Xperia E price for Russian market has not yet been announced, but we can assume that it will be in the region of 6500-7000 rubles. The Sony Xperia E dual model will cost 7,490 rubles.
