How to make a copy of a blu ray disc. Copying HD DVD and Blu-ray discs with protected content

Are you the proud owner of an original movie in high-definition video format, but cannot watch it without hardware support for HDCP technology? We will help solve this problem.

We copy original HD DVD and Blu-ray discs easily and simply.

It's amazing how quickly the AACS HD content protection technology was bypassed.
used by film companies to protect films on HD DVD and Blu-ray discs. This is especially impressive when taken
taking into account the amount of money
funds spent by film studios and other interested companies on the development of film protection technology. Fixing this error is quite difficult, since you will have to release
firmware updates
software already
released players so that they
were able to reproduce new
movies.
Let's move directly to the topic of our article. First, we will need the appropriate hardware components: a Blu-ray or HD DVD drive. Thanks to Microsoft,
option with HD DVD significantly
cheaper. The company's external HD DVD drive for the Xbox 360 game console simply connects to your computer via USB interface, same as to game console. It is this drive that we
took as a basis while working on this article. But everything stated above will work for any other compatible device.
The next step is to get
necessary software
provision that will help
bypass copy protection by removing it from video files and copying them to the hard drive. We used the AnyDVD HD 6.1.3.3 demo utility
a version of which you can download from the website. After installing AnyDVD HD, restart your computer, otherwise
the program just doesn't recognize it optical drives installed on the system.

There are several reasons why it may be necessary to remove protection from films, but the most significant is the possibility
Watch movies in high definition video format on equipment that does not support HDCP technology. We can debate for a long time about
legality of such actions, but content protection technologies
were developed primarily to prevent the copying and distribution of films, and we are not going to do that. To play protected videos
it is necessary that some
Your computer components are HDCP compliant. These components include the monitor and
video card. AnyDVD HD also removes the region code from Blu-ray discs. Among other program features
It can be noted that it allows you to remove the annoying FBI warnings and trailers that are usually placed before the film and refuse them in the usual ways
viewing is not possible.

Step by step guide
AnyDVD HD is very easy to work with - as soon as you insert the HD DVD or Blu-
ray disk, the program automatically scans it.

A small one appears in the tray
A shortcut with a little fox, right-clicking on it causes a menu of options to appear. One of the options
"Rip Video HD DVD/Blu-ray to Hard disk...", which is what we need to choose in our case.

It's not the most economical in terms of free space, but not at all quick way copying films. Let's remember that we used an Xbox 360 HD DVD USB drive. We hope that with the advent of new drive models it will be possible
copy movies significantly
faster.

AnyDVD HD naturally has a richer set of options for customizing various options, but unless you are trying to rewrite a Blu-ray disc with a region code, most of them can be left at their default values.
After the movie has been copied to HDD, our work is not finished yet. To play HD content you will need a software HD DVD or Blu-ray player. There's not much to choose from here yet.
We used which supports HD DVD and
Blu-ray. If you are absolutely sure that you need it, you can
Convert uncompressed HD content to another format, for example x264, using H.264 and MPEG-4 AVC codecs. The result will be a much smaller file, and you won’t have to worry about special program to play it. If you wish, you can purchase an HD DVD or Blu-ray recorder to make copies of your films without protection. Only the cost of recordable discs
there are enough new formats so far
high, not to mention the cost of the recorders themselves.

AnyDVD HD is not the only program that allows you to rewrite protected films in high definition formats. Can

Decrypter, but for reasons unknown to us, she refused
recognize the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive.
If you love to overcome
obstacles, you can try working with the BackupHDDVD utility, but
it has limited unprotection capabilities and is not as easy to use as AnyDVD HD.
The biggest advantage of AnyDVD HD can be considered the ability to remove AACS security encoding on the fly. It allows users who have
HD DVD or Blu-ray drives and software for playing movies in these formats, watching them on computers with old video cards or monitors that do not support HDCP technology.

Interface language: Multilingual + Russian
Medicine: activator-MeGaHeRTZ
File size: 205/185.00 MB

We wait until the contents are written into the image, and then close the program. The image is ready to mount. Next, we mount the image into a virtual drive (it should be noted here that early versions of VCD were not able to emulate BR drives).

Please note that the virtual drive is defined as “BD-ROM Drive (F:)”, the drive “HD DVD-ROM Drive (J:)” is an LG BE06 external BR burner drive.
In the following screenshot, the image with the film has already been mounted in the virtual machine:

After the disc is mounted in the drive, PowerDVD Ultra automatically starts for me (a note should be made here: the drive came with a set of Cyberlink Hi-Def Suite software from which PowerDVD was installed. After installation, it was updated via the Internet to version 7.3.4603.0 , which made it possible to play discs from a virtual drive, and added a Russian interface language. RIDMI.TXT also promised HD playback from a folder on the hard drive, but for some reason he did not want to do this). Unfortunately, the standard Windows feature “Scissors” does not want to capture video, but I laughed at this joke; in the inserted picture below, the video that was in PowerDVD was played (until I closed the player).

That's all. Finally, a few comments on the work done: The only program which agreed to make a normal image from a BR disk is ImgBurn. Then I found Alcohol 120% 5.0 with Blu-Ray support, but I had neither the time nor the desire to try it.
Further, I found out along the way that the cards Nvidia GeForce The 9400GT and 9500GT are terrible at decoding HD content. The processor load remained at 40-50% with jumps sometimes reaching 75-100%. At the same time on the maps AMD Radeon HD3650 and HD4850 processor load never reached the 10% mark. The computer configurations are as follows:
1.Cel-430 1800MHz/1GB DDR2/GF9400GT 512MB/i945GC/80GB SATA, (it will have to work hard as an HD player)
2. C2D E2200 2200MHz/2x1GB DDR2/GF9500GT 512MB/i945G/320GB SATA, (my work)
3. C2D E5200 2500MHz/2x1GB DDR2/HD3650 256MB/iP35/160GB SATA, (wife’s home)
4. C2D E8200 2666@3200MHz/4x1GB DDR2/HD4850 512MB/iX48/1.5TB SATA, (my home)
The HD3650 card was brought in configurations 1 and 2 (to my place of work), the processor load dropped to the same 5-7%, and according to Rivatuner's readings, the GPU load of the video card was 19-25% with an increase in frequencies to the normal operating frequencies of this card . Therefore, AMD PowerPlay and their UVD (Unified Video Decoder) unit work much more efficiently than their Nvidia counterparts (PureVideo HD). By the way loading GPU on Nvidia cards Rivatuner could not display it, but judging by the CPU load, it was most likely almost zero.
I also found out that AnyDVD HD perfectly removes HDCP protection. Since the monitor at home is connected via DVI-D, and the monitor does not support HDCP, naturally the film was not played even from the original disc (with PowerDVD wildly screaming that the monitor does not support HDCP, otherwise I wouldn’t know that without it :-D). The problem was solved by switching the monitor to D-Sub (for testing). After turning on AnyDVD HD, the player successfully forgot about the need for protection and successfully played a movie connected via DVI-D.
The included PowerDVD Ultra 7.3.3323 did not want to play the movie from the image, insistently demanding an update, for which an update to version 7.3.4603 was downloaded, after which the player stopped asking stupid questions :-).
Another oddity was discovered under Windows XP SP3. The mounted disk in Explorer was seen as a RAW format (instead of the expected UDF) with a size of zero, but PowerDVD still played the movie when selecting a virtual drive. Probably a screw conductor jamb, especially since on Windows Vista SP1 (on which the research was carried out), the disk in the virtual machine was visible correctly. During this work, dozens of liters of beer were drunk, blocks of cigarettes were smoked, kilometers of nerves were destroyed and hundreds of meters of traffic were wasted. I hope it's not in vain. I would be glad if this material helps someone.

P.S. Thanks to the Ochakovo company for the beer supplied to the kiosk, to Philip Morris Products S.A for the cigarettes sold, and to the only and favorite provider for the traffic spent. :-)
