Apple knows how to make not only unique gadgets, but also accessories for them. Remember the original iPad Case. It would seem like a simple cover, but they added one bend, a small hook, and here you have a stand. In this case, high-quality technological material was used, which is easy to wipe, pleasant to the touch, and looks great. And Bumper for iPhone 4 - well, nothing is simpler: a rubberized rim. But it was made perfectly and there were no analogues before it.

With the release of the iPad 2, Apple has outdone itself in the accessories arena. iPad Smart Cover is something. Don’t consider me an overly impressionable person or a crazy “apple lover.” You just need to take and touch this miracle, experience it, examine it from all sides and you will understand me. In the meantime, let me tell you about my impressions of this extraordinary accessory.

Apple has always been famous for its quality and effective packaging devices and the company did not deviate from its canons in this case. The iPad Smart Cover is packed in a hard case, there’s no other way to describe it, made of very high-quality cardboard with cool printing. The top of the blanket cover is covered with transparent plastic. The accessory is removed in a rather unusual way: you need to remove the protective sticker from the back, which will make it possible to lift the plastic cover and take out the Smart Cover.

I got my hands on a gray polyurethane model, the one that officially costs $39. The outer coating is very pleasant to the touch and is reminiscent of the original iPad Case - you get the same feeling of a rubberized Soft-touch surface.

The case weighs a little, up to a hundred grams - it does not add much weight to the tablet. The accessory evokes the feeling of a high-quality and reliable thing, as well as something very technologically advanced. This is likely due to the presence of aluminum in the design and the way the blanket is attached to the tablet, but more on that later. In the meantime, I want to tell you about the unusual effect of changing the shade of an accessory. This depends on the ambient light, its type (incandescent, bright sunlight, cloudy day, etc.) and intensity. The cover can be light gray, almost white, or it can become darker, the shade changes from pale beige to turquoise - very unusual. Another funny phenomenon can be observed when you stand next to a window at daylight and you look at the Smart Cover from different angles or simply move it from side to side: the angle of incidence of the light changes and it seems that the accessory becomes flat, then three-dimensional sections appear on it again. All these experiments, of course, are childish, but many of us remain children at heart, otherwise life becomes gray and boring.

Now about the design. It is simple, reliable and ingenious. The entire magical effect of automatic alignment of the case on the tablet and its instant fastening is achieved thanks to a couple of dozen magnets in the accessory itself and in the tablet. There is also a freely rotating aluminum hinge and a pair of aluminum holders.

To secure the blanket case, just bring the aluminum hinge to the left side of the iPad 2 - click and you're done. It is also very easy to remove by pulling one edge to the side. At the same time, the cover holds securely and even holds the tablet suspended.

The inside of the Smart Cover is lined with microfiber, but it's not just a piece of matching fabric glued on. The cover is perceived as a single whole. There is no feeling that it is assembled from several layers. Microfiber perfectly cleans the display of dust and fingerprints, but only when the fabric is used. Smart Cover can also create a similar effect if you slide it well over the screen, but usually it is rigidly fixed, so it doesn’t really clean the screen, but it protects it well.

And the accessory is very thin, it practically does not increase the dimensions of the tablet!

But Smart Cover not only acts as a protective cover for the screen. This is extremely convenient stand. You can use it for printing, and it’s also very good for reading in this position, when the tablet is lying on the table and the user is drinking tea or coffee with goodies.

In addition, it is enough to turn the entire structure over and you will get a stand for using the tablet as a photo frame or a small TV. In this position, by the way, the tablet is held more stable than the first generation iPad in its own branded case.

The Smart Cover folds into stand mode easily and can be done with one hand. When folded, it is held in place using magnets. Also, when unfolded, the cover protects back panel tablet when it is lying on a table or any other surface. She easily flips back. Of course, it is difficult to accidentally scratch unpainted aluminum, but it is possible. And the plastic apple, behind which the Wi-Fi antenna is hidden, generally gets scratched easily. Although, when thrown back, the cover extends beyond the boundaries of the tablet and in this state, for example, while lying belly up on the sofa while reading or surfing the web, holding it is not very convenient.

If desired, you can bend the cover in half - it is easily magnetized and held, and the grip of the tablet improves. In principle, removing it is a matter of seconds, so there will be no problems in any case. During the active testing of Smart Cover, I remembered the pain with which it was necessary to remove the first iPad from its own case. But, what is most interesting, the personal iPad Case withstood at least a dozen such operations with honor and was not damaged or stretched at all, even though the not-so-slippery SGP Incredible Shield film was glued to the back of the tablet.

It is impossible not to mention this Smart functions Cover, like automatically putting the iPad 2 into sleep mode when the cover is lowered onto the screen and exiting it if it is raised. It would seem like a small thing, but a damn convenient little thing. This was implemented using additional sensor in the tablet and the effect of electromagnetic induction.

It is worth noting that the gray color for Smart Cover is quite universal. It goes well with a white tablet and looks good on black, contrasting with the frame and matching the color of the silver back panel. I purchased a gray polyurethane model for my personal use. (It’s funny, I don’t have a tablet yet, but I already have a case for it.)

By the way, about buying Smart Cover. Now there is a big hype for the iPad 2 and branded accessories for it. Accordingly, prices skyrocketed. Many merchants demand three or even four of its real prices for a fashionable case, and people are willing to pay, otherwise there would be no such offers. I used the eBay buy option. Even taking into account the rather expensive delivery (about $40) and a small markup from the seller, it will still cost less than buying it in local retail. And if you order several cases at once, the delivery of each additional unit will cost four times less. Accordingly, you can cooperate with friends and order several Smart Covers at once - it will turn out even more profitable. I personally received my order from the USA to Ukraine within a week, and the courier delivered the desired envelope to my home - conveniently.

There are also Smart Cover options made of leather, which officially cost $20 more than their polyurethane counterparts and differ in color. This blanket cover looks rich and classy, but I somehow prefer the gray polyurethane version. Maybe because there is also a black leather Belkin envelope, bought at one time for first iPad and perfect for the second one. The inside is lined with gray soft fabric - the color matches the gray cover with which new tablet It should fit into it easily.

Why do you need Smart Cover if you already have a case? First of all, this accessory is just cool. As one of my good friends puts it, if you don’t want an iPad 2, then you definitely want a Smart Cover. Secondly, this is an extremely convenient stand and you can buy it just for this function.
I don’t know who at Apple came up with Smart Cover - Jonathan Ive or a designer unknown to the public, but this man is a genius, and as long as such geniuses work in the company, it will continue to amaze with its bold decisions and offer people a small technological miracle every year. After all, this is why we love Apple.

Features of smart cases for smartphones and tablets

Remember the first cases that were bought for “indestructible” mobile phones? Nokia phones and Motorola - they not only protected the devices from falls and shocks, but made them easier to carry: on a belt, on the wrist, or even even on the neck. The thinner and more fragile phones became, the more pressing the task was to protect their delicate electronic components and screen from damage. Therefore, the next generation of cases has become more functional. They were made of plastic with rubberized plastic inserts that absorbed falls, soft silicone, and even metal. Today, this problem has not gone away, but there is a need to expand the functionality of this protective element - this is how “smart” cases appeared, which will be discussed below.

Smart case - what is it?

A “smart” or smart case (from the English smart) still remains a protective accessory for a mobile device - a phone or smartphone. But at the same time he has a number additional functions, which make the life of the average user a little easier. Various manufacturers put different meanings into the prefix “smart”. Some give this case the ability to read messages and alerts, as well as reject calls without opening the case. Others are to lock or unlock a mobile device by closing and opening the cover, respectively. Still others equip the case with an additional battery, and still others - with their own screen for displaying useful information: current time, date, system alerts and others.

To understand which of the “smart” cases you really need, just pay attention to your own mechanism of interaction with your mobile device. If you save your time, the first, second and fourth options are suitable for you. If it is important for you to always be in touch, pay attention to the third one, with a built-in battery. But even better, check out what the smart case market has to offer. Most interesting models will be discussed below.

Apple Smart Battery Case

Let's start with the most sensational cases - Smart Battery Case from Apple. They are produced for iPhone models 6/6S and 7. In the first case, accessories are available in black and gray; in the second, rich red is also added to them. The case is made of elastomeric material and silicone, and is also equipped with a microfiber lining, which further protects the smartphone from external influence. But the most interesting thing about it is, of course, the built-in battery. It provides up to 25 additional hours of talk time, 20 hours of video viewing, and 18 hours of Internet browsing via LTE networks. You can check the battery charge status through your smartphone's Notification Center. To recharge the smart case, a cable with a standard Lightning connector is used, and recharging from a proprietary docking station is also supported.

From a practical point of view, such a solution looks very reasonable, but appearance mobile device, according to many buyers, is suffering. Considering that Apple technology It is valued for its elegant and discreet design; the presence of an impressive influx (the same built-in battery) on the back of the smartphone clearly does not make it more beautiful. In addition, this toy is not cheap - the case costs about 7,500 rubles.

Another smart case option designed for iPhone smartphones 6 Plus. This time the manufacturer is a third party company. She turned out to be even more practical and released a “two-in-one” accessory. Its case also serves as an additional power source, but can also be used in its standard form. The battery and the pad are aligned using magnets. When the device is fully charged, you can simply disconnect the battery and continue working with your smartphone in the thin case. The latter is offered in a single color - gray. In the center of the pad and the removable battery there are slightly convex and concave elements, respectively, with cross-shaped notches - this will make it easier for the user to figure out exactly how to connect them together.

The battery capacity in the iHave X-series Magnetic Smart case is 5000 mAh, which is enough for an average of two charging cycles Apple iPhone 6 or 6S. To replenish the battery capacity, a standard Lightning connector is used. This smart case turned out to be quite interesting due to its ability to transform. With just one cover, your mobile device will still look thin and sleek, and that's worth a lot. By the way, about the cost - here it is noticeably lower than in the previous case, and is about 2000 rubles.

This case is designed for several flagship smartphones from the One/One2 line of the Taiwanese manufacturer HTC. Unlike the two previous models, it covers the mobile device from all sides. Its main task is to notify the user about important events in the device without opening the case and unlocking it touch screen. This is not entirely implemented in the usual way. Light easily passes through many small dots at the top of the case - this is how a dotted image is formed on the screen. This is how the most miscellaneous information: current date and time, caller's name, battery charge, air temperature and more. In order for all these functions to work, you need to install the application of the same name from Google Play on your smartphone.

The Dot View case is made of high-quality polyurethane and is available in several colors: gray, black, red, orange, blue, beetroot, purple. On the inside, a fabric is used that prevents the formation of small abrasions on the smartphone body. Such a case costs relatively little - only 1,500 rubles.

And again Apple phones come into play - this little-known manufacturer makes cases for them. No points or built-in batteries this time. Instead, an additional display is used, made using E-Ink technology - it is well known to amateurs e-books. Also this technology called electronic ink. This case displays images on an additional E-Ink screen.

It would seem that the iPhone already has a great display, why do we need another one? The second takes on the function of informing the user about the most important events in the smartphone in order to save battery power. The less you access the main display, the longer you delay your next trip to the electrical outlet. Another advantage is that to perceive text information Such a display is much more comfortable for the eyes - they are not overstrained due to high contrast, an abundance of colors or sun glare. If you want to read a fascinating book or study postponed articles on the road, then this is exactly the solution that you will appreciate.

To transfer images from the main screen to the secondary screen, the Oaxis InkCase I5 Smart Protective Case uses Bluetooth technology - simple and yet economical (and again, no excessive load on the battery!). The case itself is made of elastic polymer. Its main disadvantage is that it slightly thickens the elegant iPhone case. On the other hand, you have more opportunities to personalize your mobile device - a large number is available in a special gallery interesting images, which can be displayed on an E-Ink screen in a static state. The cost of this case is quite high - about 7,000 rubles.

Lunecase

The manufacturer positions this case as a mobile accessory for iPhone with an innovative notification system, but does not forget about its main function - protective. The main feature of the case is its LED panel. Thanks to it, light alerts in the form of icons are displayed on the back of the case. First of all, these are signals about incoming calls and new messages. Interestingly, their indicators begin to glow on the case before they appear on the screen of the mobile device itself. At the same time, there are no auxiliary data transmission channels used here, as in the previous case - everything is based on the processing of electromagnetic signals sent by the smartphone. Lunecase analyzes the length and nature of the waves, after which it instantly activates one or another glowing icon.

A nice bonus: the Lunecase case does not use the energy of the standard smartphone battery, but is powered by the same electromagnetic radiation. It itself is made of pleasant-to-touch plastic with a soft rubberized coating. The design is minimalistic but effective. Isn't this interesting to owners of smartphones with the Apple logo? You can buy a Lunecase case for an average of 3,000 rubles.

AliveCor

In addition to its protective functions, the AliveCor’s Heart Monitor case also performs a purely practical task: it tracks your heart rate and makes an electrocardiogram. The accessory works in conjunction with the AliveECG application, which must be installed on your mobile device. The data obtained during the research does not disappear without a trace - it can be for a long time store in memory, periodically using it to build graphs. Measurement statistics can also be sent to the attending physician for analysis.

This is another case designed specifically for Apple owners iPhone. This is not just a fun accessory, but a truly effective device that has been certified by the FDA and received a medical device certificate, which allows it to be classified as medical equipment. Naturally, people without any medical education can safely use the heart rate monitor - it very clearly interprets the readings, which is very important for those who suffer from cardiovascular diseases. However, this case costs a lot - more than 6,500 rubles.

Today we’ll look at one very unusual question that is often asked by users of Xiaomi smartphones and tablets: what does the “Smart Cover Mode” item, which is located in the settings, mean? The answer is simple.

This is what this item looks like on the screen of a Xiaomi smartphone or tablet:

It's actually quite simple. You may have probably heard about the so-called “smart” cases for mobile devices. They are in a book format, where in order to access the screen, the cover needs to be opened - just like a book. Here is an example of a case:

These smart cases have built-in magnets. In turn, a smartphone or tablet has a special magnetic sensor, which is located under the glass. When you open the smart case, the device’s display automatically unlocks, which is very convenient.

So, returning to our item “Smart Cover Mode”, which you can find in devices from Xiaomi, we inform you that this function activates the “smart” case. What does it mean? If you turn on this function, then when using a smart case, the desktop will automatically unlock when the case is opened. If the function is deactivated, you will have to unlock the device yourself when opening the case. Actually, that's the whole answer.
